What would you do?

Like many I've suffered from various nasty viruses over the last couple of months. I'm day 10 of 'the cold' and only just feeling slightly better. Work is insane. I'm eating poorly, been too ill to exercise and have barely left the house in the last month.

I am 50 next year and am meant to be spending the lead up getting myself together - and improve health and fitness, find a better work/life balance/some focus for me given the kids will be grown in a couple of years.

I refuse to start my 50th year in a funk! I have 11 days off between 22nd and 2nd. I have very few plans (small family) so other than a couple of days, my time is unscheduled.

How can I use this time wisely? I clearly won't be dieting/not drinking (only a very moderate drinker anyway). But I guess I could try not to over eat/eat mostly good food.

How would you recharge?

What do you enjoy doing but rarely have time or head space for?

Reading I think. Yoga. Time in nature.

I've just asked dds what they have planned and it was a resounding dunno (most friends away with family).

I do love my kids but I can't waste the opportunity to look after myself just lounging on the sofa watching shite scrolling on my phone because dd 1 wants a bit of company!

I’d ensure I did 10,000 steps a day and encourage dd to join you.

give yourself permission to have lots of extra sleep and not see that As ‘time wasted’

eat all the smoked salmon, avocado and go heavy on the grapes with the cheese board 😂

call in sick to work either before or after your time off. If you are now on day 10 of illness perhaps now! Push on isn’t always good for us. Work may be insane but you are human.

Me? I would walk, swim outdoors, read, see friends to go for walks and swims, cook and eat well, hide my phone from myself when I'm home, more walking, more swimming. That would do me a world of good, I hope you find something that will do you well too

I'm a bit older than you and feel much the same. My one and only DS is a young adult though still lives with us but he is independent. Do you get enough sleep? After getting up to an early alarm five days a week I love waking up naturally once I've had enough sleep. If that means waking up at 11am then I must need the sleep!

Fresh air and exercise can seem like a chore but when you are home in daylight hours a walk outside (in countryside even better) gets your circulation going and always gives me more energy. Even 20 mins makes me feel so much better than vegging at home all day.

Take the time to 'look after' you - a hot bath/moisturiser and clean sheets is heaven to me. I've got 11 days off straight as well and only 1 commitment to cook and serve Xmas dinner for 4 (us and my mum!) I'm looking forward to it and have planned/ordered all the food and lovely wine!

I'm going to spend the rest of the time doing what I want to do not what I think I should be doing😀hoping to return to work in the New Year feeling well rested. I can but hope 😂
