Taking DS(5) to London in the first week of January to see the Titanosaur exhibit at the NHM.

Are there any child-friendly restaurants within walking distance that people would recommend for lunch?

Thanks in advance!

Pizza express we went. It's near

There's a GBK and a Franco Manca just around the corner on Old Brompton Rd, both of which are child friendly?

I like Suzette on Bute Street- it’s a creperie and they have a specific kids deal

Or there is a fab Vietnamese place next door but that is maybe a bit more adventurous so depends on your child!

I went recently with my DC and we really enjoyed the museum's restaurant. It's called the T. Rex Grill and there are animatronic dinosaurs right at the entrance. Go there, he'll love it.

There's a Lebanese restaurant at the end of Exhibition Road, at Thurloe Place - ie just around the corner from. South Kensington tube station, which has great mezze.

Seeline · 07/12/2023 12:01

There is a Five Guys and an Honest Burger (both burger places) and a Leon's (posher MCDonalds) all very close to South Kensington underground

There are also quite a few restaurants on the walk between south Ken tube and the NHM - the paved bit of exhibition road but I tend to prefer Bute street as less busy/touristy and independent eateries

Chalkdowns · 07/12/2023 12:04

There’s loads round there. Just walk between the museum and south Ken tube. My children always liked going to Pret though!

santasknackered · 07/12/2023 12:08

The local Carluccios is very child friendly, we always go there with our DC after the museums.

Esgaroth · 07/12/2023 13:08

You could just bring a tupperware of steamed badger and rice.

SalmonWellington · 07/12/2023 13:10

By far the best place is the V and A cafe. In summer you can sit ousidecand the kids can paddle. In winter it is gorgeous inside.

Yep, this is where we go and it is always crawling with museum families.

I like the sound of the pancake place though.

Darknessoldfriend · 07/12/2023 13:11

We ate in their cafe but there were loads of families with picnics and plenty of tables to eat at, if that works out better/cheaper/easier?

GloomySkies · 07/12/2023 13:19

South Ken is great for restaurants, but when I go to the NHM I bring picnics for my DC. There is a huge picnic area on the basement level, with a water refill station. Then there's money saved to get a fancy hot chocolate or something on the way home, and it saves on wasted time.

Google restaurants/cafes near me when you’re there and it’ll probably give you around 80 within walking distance 🙄

I wouldn't be getting any recommendations then though would I? Which was the point of my OP, incase you missed it Confused

Thanks to everyone else for your suggestions. We're probably looking for a restaurant rather than bringing a picnic as we'll have a 3 hour train journey each way and I'd rather limit what we have to bring and carry around with us. Plus it's for DS's birthday and we'd like to treat him Smile

If you want a big big treat, ampersand hotel does science themed afternoon tea about 5 minutes walk away. The kids version is fantastic.
