Where do people go instead of Paperchase - I miss it

The likes of Papier are too expensive for me. Where else is there?

I just shop online. I thought Paperchase went off a bit with its designs in the five years before the shop closed, but it was really good at one time.

It's tricky to tell quality though, I like thick paper and nice thick covers of notebooks.

I miss a mooch around Paperchase but they were expensive. Wilko used to have some nice stationery too although that has gone too.

BluebellsForest · 08/12/2023 13:32

Honestly, the Tesco range looks pretty uninspired and basic:

Missing the real thing 😢

Etsy, support small businesses and find something unique.

DrMarshaFieldstone · 08/12/2023 13:43

Flying Tiger
Sostrene Grene
Waterstone's
Present & Correct in London (although price point is probably similar to Papier)
Scriptum in Oxford

DrMarshaFieldstone · 08/12/2023 13:44

And Thortful online for greetings cards

ohtowinthelottery · 08/12/2023 13:57

Our large Next store on the retail park had a big stationery section - Paperchase style - when I went in a couple of weeks ago. They never used to have that department.

nutsnutspistachionuts · 08/12/2023 14:53

Fred Aldous, Muji, Flying Tiger, independents

WinterParakeets · 08/12/2023 14:56

What are you looking for? Typo is good for notebooks, diaries and planners. So is Amazon. The Works are good for craft materials.

DarkAcademia · 08/12/2023 14:57

The Journal Shop is a joy to browse on.

Cornettoninja · 08/12/2023 14:59

Another who likes the range at waterstone. I’ve also bought stationery gifts for teenagers from Next. There’s a homeware one by me that has a decent stationery range.

Must admit, I’ve never been in a paperchase though so I don’t really know how they compare.

SutWytTi · 08/12/2023 15:01

I miss it too - used to buy their lovely made in the UK coloured paper and card, it was so good.

Flyinggeesei234 · 08/12/2023 15:19

I think they still exist via Next.

tachycardigan · 08/12/2023 15:56

I think Paperchase is too posh for me, even when they had their 50% off closing down sale, I was balking at the prices.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/12/2023 16:01

I've got bits and pieces in TKMaxx

Britpopbaby · 08/12/2023 17:08

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads I am sad that the stationery department of my local TK Maxxes has been cut down in terms of size.

The question of an alternative to Paperchase has been occupying me almost full time for the past 24 hrs.

In years long gone my nearest city branch was on three floors, and the top floor was a billionaire artist’s dream refuge. I used to spend hours up there comparing sheets of hand marbled or printed paper (despite not being a billionaire) - and there was always a day once a year, around now, when I left loaded down and utterly shell shocked at just how much I’d spent on wrapping paper and ribbon. Obviously it was all too good to last.

I’m aware Tesco hosts something called Paperchase - but it’s very ground floor stuff.

I love Scriptum - but it’s better in person.

Anyway, yesterday evening I googled ‘best wrapping paper, UK’. That was my night covered. Try it - see what you find!

M&S for birthday cards, Tiger for nice notebooks etc.
