Why does my dressing gown smell so bad for no reason I can fathom?

It's a White Company one, made of 96% viscose and 4% elastane. It's only 5 months old and it's worn after a bath and washed weekly.

I noticed it smelled weird the other day -'sort of down the front. I was puzzled as not a mark on it but duly washed it again for the second time and tumbled it and ive put it back on again and god - the smell! I've actually put it in the bin now, that's how gross it is. But it's straight out the tumble dryer?

The smell is fishy I suppose. Cod liver oil type smell. Not pleasant

So if nothing else I own smells, I never ever leave washing in my machine to fester and I use nice washing powders etc .. what is it with this robe?

I read somewhere some dyes present this problem.

OH had some walking shoes an expensive make one day they stank so I washed them. No improvement after a day wearing them so soaked in a bucket of oxygen bleach. Again they stank. I then googled the brand lo and behold so many stories of stinking footwear so in the bin they went. So annoying.

Clarks had a recall on some shoes as the dyes they used were poisonous.

When’s the last time you cleaned your machine? I pulled the powder drawer all the way out the other day and there was loads of black mould in there I was washing into my clothes 🤢.

This is so weird, JUST smelt this today and it’s gone to the wash. Was some time ago since it smelt like this before. Hate washing it in the winter months as at least up to October you get proper drying days!!
