You can only eat one food for the rest of your life

What is it?

It can’t be a meal but it can have a few ingredients like cheeseburgers, pizza, biscuits, cake etc.

Mine would be popcorn. I can’t eat it because I have to eat low carb but it’s my most favourite food.

Cheese, I absolutely love it.

sprigatito · 06/12/2023 16:50

From a survival standpoint...probably kedgeree with brown rice and lots of boiled eggs and fish

If health isn't a consideration in this fictitious universe...gammon. Lots of it. With rich salty gammon gravy to dip it in.

mambojambodothetango · 06/12/2023 16:50

I'd go for potatoes too. Cheese would be a close second.

Tomatoes on toast

We had this discussion at home the other day. There are 2 ways to answer, one being the fantasy answer of what would you actually like to eat for the rest of your life if you had only one, the other being what would be the one to choose to try and ensure the longest survival on only one foodstuff (we were playing it as one ingredient, not a dish, cheeseburger, stew etc, which makes it too easy!).

The survival one is undoubtedly the potato. I live in Ireland. Irish peasants were, prior to the famine of the 1840s, the healthiest peasants in Europe because they lived on potatoes (and pretty much only potatoes) as opposed to other countries where their staple was wheat (I learned this on the Irish History Podcast, which is really good).

The fantasy one (i.e. if there are no health implications and it is just what you would want to eat) I would go for milk, so I could make it into yoghurt, cheese, etc. DH would live on fillet steak. We would both be dead of bowel blockage or maybe kidney disease from protein overload in quite a short time.

I cannot choose between the two loves of my life. Potatoes and cheese..... 🤣

ElAmerico · 06/12/2023 16:53

If I would have no health consequences then pasties or if genuinely one item then eggs.

Pizza so I could have a variety of toppings and never get bored the base could be like an edible plate 🤣

LoobyDop · 06/12/2023 16:56

Can I have pasta and get all the sauces included for free?

If I seriously had to survive on 'one thing' it'd have to be some sort of casserole or thick soup with some beef, beans, pearl barley and various veg in it.

That's probably too sensible an answer to be permitted!Grin

Wholly against the rules 😂

Cheese!

kiwiaddict · 06/12/2023 17:00

Stephisaur · 06/12/2023 16:40

Toast with butter (that's ok, surely?)

I'm voting this too.

DahliaMacNamara · 06/12/2023 17:01

I was going to say crisps, but I should probably go for a broader spectrum and plump for potatoes. Is there salt to make ready salted crisps in this scenario?

LaBorde · 06/12/2023 17:05

I’d have a steak pizza

But by that I mean steak as the base - instead of dough, then mushrooms, onions, peppers, spinach and cheese as the topping.

Does that count😂

Laska2Meryls · 06/12/2023 17:15

Mash : potato milk butter
... If I can forage as well id have herbs and things like dandelion, nettle or sea spinach greens.. )I'd live but it wouldn't be that exciting ...
Is Foraging allowed? You can have berries, nuts fungi and fruit then also ... ( Maybe the odd rabbit or bird...)

Laska2Meryls · 06/12/2023 17:17

If none of the above allowed , then milk.. or potatoes...

SkyFullofStars1975 · 06/12/2023 17:18

Strong gutsy mature cheddar, the sort that makes your tongue tingle.

jay55 · 06/12/2023 17:18

Tacos

MythicBish · 06/12/2023 17:20

Does macaroni cheese count?

If not then just cheese 🧀

NonanteNeuf · 06/12/2023 17:22

You lot trying to bend the rules 😁

One thing that can have a few ingredients but no foraging, fishing, hunting or gathering.

No unlimited pasta sauces. Just one!

Does wine count? Asking for a friend…

Pinkdelight3 · 06/12/2023 17:24

pasta (probably shells, but not fussy as long as its shapes not spaghetti) and pesto (green sacla, not of that freshly made muck).
