Blueish tinge to lips, but feel relatively ok - anyone else have this?

I often have a pale blue-ish line around my lips, particularly the bottom one. Some times are more noticeable than others. I've looked it up on google and everything to do with blue lips sounds so severe! I have asthma that's controlled and never have 'attacks'. Whenever I've had one of those oxygen monitors stuck on my finger at the GP's, it's always good. My partner and a friend have both commented on it.

Personally, I'm not that concerned, though it's not a good look. But thought I'd ask the wise peeps of mumsnet in case other people can tell me they have this too and either reassure me or tell me I've got something dreadful that's too rare even for t'interweb to know about it.

This happened to my husband a few times years ago. It happened whenever he had had a can of red bull. He mentioned it to our GP who said it was quite common.

My son used to get this if he ate salt and vinegar crisps.

@Ladybirdbookworm - 🙂I don't drink Red Bull! And, @BeverleyMacker - no salt and vinegar crisps! These are great reasons for blue lips though....

@clearspilt - definitely not underweight...at least a stone overweight..if not more...

Are you cold? Both my DSs used to get blue lips on a cold day or during swimming lessons.

Teenage DD had it once in the summer, I took her to walk in at the hospital and the GP actually ran out to do her sats as I checked her in - but her oxygen levels were fine. They never got to the bottom of it and it didn't happen again!

GrumpyandSleepy · 06/12/2023 16:52

Have you had your heart checked out?
Do your fingers and toes also change colour? It could be Reynauds.

BeverleyMacker · 06/12/2023 16:53

Do your hands and feet get very cold? Raynaud's? I have it and it can affect lips and ears.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 06/12/2023 16:57

@BeverleyMacker - yes, my hands and feet (plus nose and ears) are always very cold. Sometimes I'm embarrassed to to touch my partner as they're always freezing and if anyone touches my hand they always exclaim "you're freeeeezing!" however, I ruled out Reynauds as there's no pain at all accompanying the cold.
