heating on while away in winter?

We're going away for 2 weeks in December/Jan, leaving our house empty, which we've never done before at this time of year.
Should we set the heating to come on at all and if so what temperature/time of day?
House usually gets lots of condensation on the windows which I wipe and air each morning, but I think that's mostly from us being in the house (showers, kettle, breathing etc). Is that going to be a problem if all windows are locked for 2 weeks and is there anything I can do about it?

Sorry for the boring topic!

Our house was so cold when we were away in October that even the mice moved out😂

Many thermostats have a frost setting so that it will always come on if it drops below about 4 or 5, check if yours has one. 15 is quite high as insurance, I'm sure you can go much lower than that. Unless you have one, you can operate remotely. Be aware it will be freezing when you get back and may take 24 a couple of cycles to get properly warm again.

Surely it costs a lot to heat a house to 15 degrees 24/7? The temperature in my London kitchen usually below 15 when I get up in the morning in winter.

I would have thought 7 or 8 degrees is enough to insure against frozen pipes?

Assuming you don't have a smart thermostat, set it on constant but turned down to 8-10 degrees, enough to keep the pipes from freezing

Christ I have it set to 15 when I’m at home. Who are these people who can afford to heat the house to 15 degrees when they aren’t even there?!

I have the thermostat on 9 degrees when away.
