Do I need an air fryer?

I keep on seeing them mentioned on threads, and am being targeted by advertisers, but would it improve my life if I had one?
My kitchen is small, so it would need to be worth the space it would take up. I have the usual oven, grill and microwave, and cook from scratch most of the time. There are always 2 but often 4 or 5 adults for evening meals.
Any thoughts?

I love mine, I live alone so I try not to use too much energy.

I like it so much I bought my dad one.

We have a smallest Ninja one. It gets used several times a day for small things (minimum every morning to defrost 1/3 of a baguette for DH's and my breakfast) that would be wasteful to turn the oven on for.

Some examples:

  • Yesterday I was home alone and made myself some tortilla chips from an unused wrap that was left over.
  • On the weekend DD did herself a pain au chocolat in it.
  • I reheated a jacket potato in it to crisp up the skin (after 2 mins in the microwave).

It's great for things like nuggets or cordons bleus if you eat that sort of thing. DH sometimes chucks a couple of whole aubergines in it then has them on toast with yoghurt because he's weird .

I have had some fails : mushrooms more or less disintegrated, and I tried to make a cake which ended up beautiful on top and raw underneath.

I wouldn't get one of the massive 2 drawer ones unless I had a huge kitchen or didn't have an oven at all.

My brother doesn't cook. They he git the airfryer and has started to cook. So clearly great for him.
I hienelty can't see the fuss. I do quite fine with the oven.

I have a tiny kitchen and I'm not much of a foodie, so didn't think I'd want one. I was at a friend's house and she had one... it wasn't quick and it was very noisy so that was the final nail in the coffin for me. So it's a resounding no from me.

I don't think anyone needs one but they are usefuI if you cook a lot of frozen stuff like nuggets, oven chips etc. A tray of fish fingers takes about 20 mins in the oven, whereas in the air fryer it takes about 6 minutes, so it's saving on time and energy. Things cook better and seem to retain flavour more. I only now cook in the oven what won't fit in the air fryer.

I love ours. But it's not the answer to everything. It's a tool a bit like the microwave.

It reheats beautifully. Cooks bacon and roast potatoes and cracking to perfection. I find it best used with my slow cooker so I don't put my oven on at all.

If you have the space I'd say yes. It won't cook a meal for the family, but it's a pretty good support act.
