Help with car insurance.

Renewal has come through with 1 claim listed. I haven't claimed on the policy. I did ring the insurance company for advice.
Quote has increased by £330 - more than double of last year!

Emailed and called company yesterday passed from one agent to the next and after a 90 minute wait had to end the call!
First agent did say ‘ this should have been recorded as a notification of incident, not a claim’.

I need to renew - but any other policy I take out is going to include a claim.

Any advice please. Insurance runs out tonight.

All car insurance has gone up massively

Is the claim/incident something you notified them of? Unfortunately car insurance has gone up across the board, but if they've added on a claim that wasn't a claim then that should be taken off?

Yes, the agent said it should have been noted as ‘ notification of incident’ not a claim.

Can't get hold of anyone by email or phone (Quotemehappy….NOT)

Sorry I'm a bit confused. You say the renewal came through with a claim listed. But you didn't claim? Then you said you notified them of an incident?

Bluevelvetsofa · 05/12/2023 15:42

An incident is different from a claim though. An incident means that you notify them of something, but don’t make a claim on it. A claim follows an accident that you claim on the insurance for.

We notified our insurance company in the summer, but didn’t make a claim, because the cost of a small repair was less than the excess.

So I spoke with the insurance company after a lady reversed into my parked car.

No claim for any damages were made. The damage wasn't serious enough to warrant claiming.

The agent yesterday seemed to say that there is...
A claim ( where the company has paid out)
A notification of an incident ( no costs)

I sought advice - which would be ‘notification of an incident.

My policy details say I've made 1 claim.

I'm thinking this will be part of the price increase.

On hold again ATM.

@LahnaMJA my insurance went up by £200. The rises are shocking but when you realise car crime is not being investigated and that high end cars are being stolen to order it’s not hard to realise why car insurance has gone up so much.

So, sorted!

My ‘1 claim’ is recorded as a claim.
According to the insurance company, this does not affect the renewal cost. I have protected NCD anyway.

I was offered and declined a customer service conversation where they offered to explain why my insurance has more than doubled. I declined.

The service received has been awful, numerous emails, unanswered or passed on with response, time off from work to ring the company ( 70 minute wait, 48 minute wait, fighting for them the help me and refusing when they tried to give me yet another number to ring).

I requested a quote from other companies, adding my ‘1 claim’ but with a zero for the costs of the claim and of course that it wasn't my fault.

So car now insured for £340.00, up from £289.00 last year and much less than the £689.00 quoted.

What a palava, Quote Me Happy!
