Is this mean, or harmless fun?

I have noticed an FB friend of mine sometimes posts pictures of people she has seen in her city to her feed and public groups, basically shaming their bodies and/or fashion. I can't help but think it's a bit mean, but she presumably just thinks it's a bit of fun.

It's rotten.

It's way more than "a bit mean". It's disgusting.

Popdrop · 05/12/2023 00:09

It's awful and I would say something

TheShellBeach · 05/12/2023 00:09

Utterly vile

There used to be a funny website, not sure if it's still a thing or maybe moved to IG, but it was called People of Walmart, american obviously but quite entertaining as Walmart is notorious for people shopping in their pj's or any number of strange, inappropriate or just unflattering outfits. It was widely accepted as just fun, never included personal info or locations I'm pretty sure. I don't remember if they blurred faces.

But if it's done on the local scale it seems more like a personal attack and a bit mean.

@flowerchild2000 Thanks, that's interesting. She lives in a city, but if someone had an especially distinctive outfit they could be identified I suppose. I wouldn't do it myself anyway.

Being it's her personal account, it comes across badly for sure

I agree, not sure why she'd enjoy it

Not sure how the link got on there – it's nothing to do with the thread. 🤔

It's mean to publicly mock and denigrate people, even if they never become aware of it. It's not fun and it's not harmless. If nothing else, she is harming her reputation as a decent human being. Judging goes both ways.

scoobydoo1971 · 05/12/2023 00:27

Imagine how sad and vacuous her life is if she has the time to take photos of random people, and then upload to social media in some attention seeking crusade of thinly veiled superiority. Normal, balanced people haven't got the time, nor inclination to be vindictive, and intelligent, self aware people might have a thought for how badly it reflects on them and others perception of them. Feel sorry for this woman.

Awful. People should be able to go out and exist in public without having photographs of them taken, shared, and used for mockery.
