How long does a real (cut) Xmas tree last?

We've always had a very nice, large artificial tree , but it's a pain to assemble (all individual branches have to be hooked in) and so on a whim yesterday we went out and bought a real tree, stand and water holding base. It's currently in the garden waiting til Friday when my 2 yr old DGS is with me overnight..we will decorate it together (or I will and he'll mess it up Xmas Grin)
How do I keep it going? I'm going to put it by the bifold doors as they are the coolest place in the living room. Is it a case of tons of water and hope?

We get ours around (or just before) mid December and usually take it down very early January. A good 3 weeks before it starts shedding, but I get fed up of it all once NYE is done.

We'll get ours this weekend but by Boxing Day it will be very dry and it will shed a lot of needles but you get about 3 weeks out of them I'd say, 2 weeks of looking good and 1 of starting to look a bit dry and shedding when touched

Ours usually lasts 3 weeks - get a non-shedding tree, get them to cut a new slice off the end when you buy it, and keep topping up the water. Put something under it when you carry it outside! A tarpaulin or dust sheet is perfect. It will drop needles everywhere when you drag it through the doorways on the way outside.

Ours usually lasts a good 4+ weeks. Just don't let the water dry up.
