Can electrics trip just for being overloaded?

Can having too many appliances on trip the switch? I put on the washing and the drying. Turned on the Lakeland heated dryer. Put the heating on and boiled the kettle all within three mins. Then system tripped. Wouldn’t reset so turned everything off and it would reset. Too late right now to eliminate things but have put boiler back on and that is fine at least. Could it just be that I put on too much? Just trying to convince myself that washing machine hasn’t chosen today to be faulty

Simple answer, yes.

That's what the fuse box is for - or would you prefer a fire?

Bellossom · 04/12/2023 23:42

Yep definitely if we are washing and drying and cooking have to remember not to turn kettle on too!

Of course not @Iloveanicegarden - did you mean to be so rude?! I was asking about the possibility of causes

Yes they can, but also RCDs can become sensitive over time. Always best to call a quality electrician.

Yes. Your system has a maximum load and that is a lot of very heavy demanding items and it will have tripped to protect itself.
