How can I give up sugar?

I'm borderline diabetic and also a tendency to binge eat.
I want to try keto/low carb and give up sugar. But my god its so hard.
There's always lots of chocolate and biscuits in my house and I can't stop that cos it's not just me who lives here!

Has anyone been a chocoholic and managed to quit sugar?

Zoe to track your blood sugar. That's what worked for me when I had gestational diabetes (a cheaper nhs version)

Also try and get early nights while you're doing it , get some nice sparkling water flavored drinks in with no sugar.

You can have sweet potatoes and berries - use these for cravings

I've been low carbing for a while now and it is really hard. Sometimes I do very well but at others I just want to fall head first into cake.

I will say that it easier if your house isn't filled with of things you can't eat. Get rid of anything that tempts you. And yes, you can tell your husband and kids not to bring it into the house - this is your health at stake. The very least they can do is not throw obstacles in your way. And since sugary food is so harmful, it wouldn't kill them to eat less of it too!

There are some great bootcamp threads on MN that are very supportive. Davinia Taylor's willpowders keto creamer for coffee and her supplements are great.

Eventually you do get to a point where you are eating good quality food and not feeling hungry, but the desire to eat sugar does come back because it's so addictive. I think you have to find other ways to treat yourself and make yourself feel rewarded, that aren't sugar based.

We are biologically programmed to eat as much sugar as possible. All we can do is discourage and minimise. I can't imagine there's anybody who doesn't crave sugar sometimes. Our ancestors ate the berries and the ripe fruits.
