Champagne cocktails

I know a Kir Royale is supposed to be made from champagne and cassis. It sounds good but I've never had one. What would be the likely result if champagne was substituted for prosecco or cava and the cassis for...Ribena? The latter isn't blackcurrant liqueur so obviously no alcohol content and a good deal sweeter. Probably not a good mix.

I must buy some cassis and Chambord and try these things for myself.

You can make a perfectly acceptable Kir Royale using Ribena concentrate and sparkling wine. Just be sure to use only a few drops of Ribena or it will be too sweet. If you use dry cider instead of wine, you'll get a Kir Normande, which is nice too.

Prosecco, amaretto and cranberry is lovely, and very festive.

French martinis with your leftover Chambord too.

Cremant a great sub for champs.

Can I post my Christmas cocktail we have every Christmas Eve, it's like a ritual.

In a cocktail shaker ...

Aperol, elderflower (cordial), gin, ice. Shake up and pour then top with prosecco. Delicious.

I think it's called a 'Sicilian'. It's delicious, lovely colour too!

I've still got most of my bottle of M&S cassis I bought nearly a year ago. It's been in the fridge all this time so is hopefully still functional.

I'm sure it will be! I made the noisette cocktail last year (fizz with a drizzle of frangelico added to the glass) and can confirm it is absolutely gorgeous. It's become a firm favourite in this house!

It's fine

I need to use it more often, I suppose. Sparkling wine isn't that common in my home so I'll have to find some alternatives to mix it with.

Any dry fizz will do but you can't do without some kind of liqueur otherwise too sweet - doesn't have to be blackcurrant, you're sometimes offered strawberry or blackberry.

The king of champagne cocktails however is...The Champagne Cocktail.

Take champagne glass
Drop small cube brown sugar in it
Shake some angostura bitters onto the cube.
Cover the cube with brandy.
Fill with champagne

Drink

Don't have more than two!

This is magnificent! It was our "getting ready" drink back in the 80s. After a long week at work in the City, my flatmates and I would be v v tired but still want to go out and party. We had one of these while dolling ourselves up, and were raring to go. Never failed 😂😂😂😂 I want one now....
