Ongoing Blood in Urine, any experiences please?

Hi, I have been referred by gp on the two week pathway for cancer.
I have had blood in urine since at least January (though it became invisible so thought it had cleared up) and am wondering if it could be anything other than cancer please?
im 48, single mum to a disabled child, no childcare.
thank you.

Hi. Sorry to hear you're worried, have you had any other tests done, there could be other reasons, handholding for you

Donaldducked · 03/12/2023 21:01

Thank you HappyHamsters. I’m having bloods done on Tuesday but it’s just the waiting which is a bit torturous.
the gp did say that in men it would likely be cancer but that it isn’t always so in women.

I almost always have traces of blood in my urine but bloods, USS, CT, MRI & cystoscopy have showed nothing untoward so it's not always the worst case scenario

I used to have blood in my urine in my 30s. I used to get it every few months but I also got pain in my bladder when urinating as if it was being squeezed.

I saw a urologist and had a cystoscopy. Before the cystoscopy he said that he hs found that just having the cystoscopy could resolve the issue and that is what happened.

I didn't get it again for around 5 years and I then had another cystoscopy and I haven't had it again for 10 years. So I am hoping that I won't have it again ever.

From what I know, it is usually cancer in old men, so hopefull you will be fine.

Me too. I’ve still no idea what causing mine but the tests have all shown no signs of cancer.
I do have kidney stones though which apparently may be causing the traces of blood so maybe you have stones?

Try not to torture yourself with the 'what if's'. In women it can be many different things.
Hold tight until your appointment - then they will start to rule things out.

Chouxpastryishard · 03/12/2023 22:09

I have this. No cause found. It’s a worry. Apparently it is relatively common.

MrsWhites · 03/12/2023 22:14

A relative did, small kidney stones were found to be the cause.

Ohmylovejune · 03/12/2023 22:19

I had investigations for this about 5 years ago. A whole day of various tests, scans and bladder camera check. They didn't find anything sinister at the time and signed me off.

Thank you all so much for your answers. It’s really what I need to hear right now!
so glad I started this thread.
Thanks again.

Remember the 2 week pathway is largely for elimination reasons. I've had blood in my urine several times because of kidney stones - have they ever sent your urine to a lab for culture? Not that those tests are that reliable anyways tbh.

MrsFloof · 04/12/2023 03:04

I had blood in urine a few years back. NHS tests showed nothing. Private tests showed a rare urine infection which needed antibiotics and then felt much better. Also I did end up having breast cancer and when they did a CT the kidneys showed up I think cysts and I think they can cause bleeding.

SofiaAmes · 04/12/2023 03:07

I've always had small amounts of blood (non visible) in my urine...apparently this is common in women who are very active. Recently they found larger amounts and it turned out to be (camera in my bladder to determine this) a very inflamed bladder, probably due to estrogen deficiency/menopause. There are lots of things that can cause blood in urine that aren't cancer.

Catswillbecats · 04/12/2023 06:46

There is something called Exercise induced Hematuria. Anyone who does HIIT or running is most likely to see it. I only know because I work in a medical centre where our client base is generally people who do a lot of fitness training/PT.
We also test a lot of urine!
