Inconsiderate marketplace people

Why are some people so rude and inconsiderate?

We have been waiting all day for someone to collect something. They have already messed us about and told us today that they would definitely be coming at 11.30am. We are still waiting. When we messaged to ask what their ETA was at 1.30 - they said they had some 'unexpected visitors' and would be leaving soon. So it seems they weren't even going to update us. Still waiting - they have completely messed up our plans for today. I am raging and just don't understand how people can be so rude. Annoyingly, we could really do with the money or I would be tempted to just say don't bother collecting.

Like fuck would I wait in all day for someone.

Hi,
We're going out now until 4. Let me know if can collect after then.

MammaWeasel · 03/12/2023 15:14

First Post nails it!

verrymerryberry · 03/12/2023 15:17

Did you give them your full address.

I no longer give the house number out and tell them to message when they set off for the house number.

This sort the time-wasters out. Also I only give a 30 minute collection window.

Shudder at the thought of people tuning up at random times.

Someone came to collect something this morning and the first thing he said was "have you had a few timewasters then"

PocketPoL · 03/12/2023 15:17

@AhBiscuits you are right. I think because they have strung us along and it has always 'soon' that we have just ended up waiting, which is silly I know.

'Twas ever thus. Don't ever wait in for people. Only arrange collection for days you' ll be home, or else say "Saturday before 11am" or whatever, and go about your day as planned. Yes, people are flakey, but you don't have to allow it to ruin your plans.

PocketPoL · 03/12/2023 15:27

Good ideas @verrymerryberry, thank you. Definitely won't let this happen again.

They are coming from a bit of a distance so I felt like I couldn't inconvenience them and now I'm typing that out I'm realising what a mug I've been. We should have just cracked on but it is £100 we could really do with - so I guess that has influenced the stupidity slightly.

@PocketPoL I waited in all day for someone to collect £4 basket!

More fool me I suppose but we live and learn eh!

So give postcode so the can work out the timings etc. no one has yet had problems with this. Someone else did it with us as buyers and I thought it very sensible! If they don't message before the collection window -depends on how harsh you want it to be - but i usually say if I don't hear from you before an hour from now I'll pas it to next in line. If no one else wants it I'll be a bit more flexible!

PocketPoL · 03/12/2023 15:54

Aww I'm glad it isn't just me. That's a great plan, thank you.

They've just come to collect - I probably should have said something but I stayed upstairs whilst DH dealt with it as I feel too annoyed and not in a position to be rational. They tried to argue the price down, DH said no and stuck by it - people make my brain hurt sometimes.

Ah well you got you £100! Well done

Never did get my £4 and the basket went to the charity shop!

PocketPoL · 03/12/2023 15:59

This is true! Oh no - I'm sure your basket went to a good home in the end.

I love the 'is it still available?' - I reply then nothing more from them!

Or ' will you take x for it?' (well below asking price) Followed quickly by 'you'll need to deliver' (I think you'll find I don't!)

Or they tell me it isn't worth what I'm asking - how do they know? Obviously I'm a stupid woman who doesn't do any research and just plucks a price from thin air....

Fortunately there are some lovely people out there to make up for the others...

TheThingIsYeah · 03/12/2023 18:13

@SleepingisanArt I love the 'is it still available?' - I reply then nothing more from them!

I get that all the time. Even when I reply within 30 seconds of them sending the message. Time wasters.

Of course the super keen ones who can't come to collect it but they'll send a courier with the money if you could just pay the insurance blah blah. Get in the bin.

KeepingKeepingOn · 03/12/2023 18:28

Ugh I hate the ‘is it still available’ crowd - I usually don’t respond if there’s zero personalisation to the message.

Had one the other day, I said it was, they said ‘great, need drop off to xxx’ 🤨 I’ll do without the £15, thanks (and that’s if they didn’t try to haggle upon free drop-off…)

marmitegirl01 · 03/12/2023 18:33

Someone just messaged me about an item. But her details brought up a previous chat we had about another item and she'd messed me around ultimately not collecting an item. Guess what lady - you ain't having this one then are you 🤷‍♀️🤣

I tried to give away some kids stuff on Facebook for free, thinking cost of living crisis, doing a good turn etc, they didn't turn up, I chased, they said their kid was sick (couldn't message to say?), then that they could 'probably' pick up mid-week, or could I drop to them. I was fairly heartless by this stage and just said 'sorry, I need it gone, I'll take to charity shop.' Got a funny message back saying how much they needed it, well not enough to let me know they weren't coming or any sort of commitment beyond 'probably.' I just take stuff to the charity shop or clothes bank now.

PlipPlopChoo · 03/12/2023 18:53

I would never wait in for somebody. At most I might wait back 20 minutes if they had not messaged. If they message and I need to go out I then tell them to make another appointment.
