Suitable or not? So long since I watched it that I can't remember!

13? Yes! Absolutely.

sixteenfurryfeet · 03/12/2023 14:04

Fine.

ANightingale · 03/12/2023 14:04

You might find the BBFC summary useful - includes details of strong language/sexual content etc.

It's rated 12A - personally I would think it fine for a 13 year old.

SwedishEdith · 03/12/2023 14:05

Totally fine. I think I was about that age when we saw it at the cinema.

Ghostofborleyrectory · 03/12/2023 14:06

There is a nude shot and a quite rude sex joke I think (although might be getting mixed up with The Holy Grail) My 12 year old loves Monty Python so I fast-forward those three seconds as he is rather prudish.

Hijinks75 · 03/12/2023 14:08

I suppose it depends on your religious beliefs, some still find it offensive, personally think it’s a great film and would happily let 13 year old watch it, there’s much much worse that they could be watching

FatchyPog · 03/12/2023 14:10

It hasn’t aged well, at all.

Oh has it not?

Oh - just seen it's on Netflix. Excellent. Yeah, I think it's suitable, op. Enjoy.

I completely disagree.

FatchyPog · 03/12/2023 14:17

I rewatched it a year or two ago and it seemed that being female was the punchline to many jokes, often literally!

FreshWinterMorning · 03/12/2023 14:29

I saw it when I was about 12, and me and my parents almost pissed ourselves (laughing) collectively - on the Christmas Eve we watched it.

I hope he enjoys it. he will! Grin

megletthesecond · 03/12/2023 14:30

Yes. The rude bits aren't too bad. It's aged pretty well imo.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 03/12/2023 14:27

The last time I watched it, I thought of Mumsnet FWR board when I saw this scene 😃

VernonScrips · 03/12/2023 14:37

We took my 12 year old to see it at the cinema at Easter, it’s fine.

kweeble · 03/12/2023 14:39

I thinks it’s great!

AHeadForHeights · 03/12/2023 14:41

Yes of course it is fine and in my opinion it's as relevant now as it ever was.

PonyPatter44 · 03/12/2023 14:45

I think its aged remarkably well, all things considered. Poking fun at people who consider themselves religious but fail to act in the actual spirit of their religion will never stop being funny.

Also, the "people called Romani they go the house" scene cracks me up every time. My Latin teacher was exactly like that!

DaphneMoo · 03/12/2023 14:45

My ds loves it and first saw it at about 11, definitely fine. I think it's aged well and some of it very relevant for today's identity politics

megletthesecond · 03/12/2023 14:57

"Conjugate the verb...."

What absolute bollocks!

Yes, fine for 13, unless they are unusually sensitive.

CreationNat1on · 03/12/2023 15:49

Lots of endless sexual innuendo and done full frontal nudity....... I think more suited to 15s

Squiblet · 03/12/2023 15:56

My 13yo DS laughed a lot when we watched it last year. The nudity might have made him a bit uncomfortable but it only lasted a minute. "It was the 70s," I told him.

There's some very dated & unpleasant racial epithets used to describe the Jews though - used by a Jewish character, still hard to hear.
