Help! Compression stockings!

My DM has been prescribed compression stockings to help with vascular eczema how do you get the bloody things on and off if you have difficulty bending? It took her over an hour to take them off the first night so I’ve made sure I’ve ’popped in’ so can help for the last two days but she is soooo independent and wants to do it herself. She’s tried two contraptions that fit over the foot but she can’t get them over her toes and her nose goes blue if she bends over for too long (that should stop eventually with new medication). Has any one used the ‘cage’ device and is it easy for an eighty-seven year old with water retention and limited reach to use?
Any suggestions warmly welcomed hence putting this in chat.

There is a trick with plastic bags which I’m sure you can find on YouTube. However, I suspect that she will continue to need help. Why is she taking them off at night anyway? I would have thought the simpler option was to wear them continuously for 2/3 days and then you can help her change them. I had to wear them for 6 weeks after a hip replacement (when you can’t bend) and that’s what I did and my DD changed them for me. You can get special waterproof covers to wear in the shower. Alternatively, you need to talk to the GP about getting a district nurse or carer to pop in and help her.

If she struggles with putting them on/taking them off, you can get velcro'd ones. Speak to the nursing team or dr that prescribed them. You can also get ones that zip up.

The bag trick doesnt work for ones that dont have open toes which is more common with the prescribed ones, generally speak the temporary post surgery ones are the open toed ones. They can be very difficult, but theres option available.

The nurse who fitted them told her to take them off at night.
She was shown the plastic bag trick when she was in hospital and wearing the geisha girl white ones. The problem is getting them over her toes and pushing them over her heels.

She has the open toe ones as they didn’t have any others but I think they are easier. She’s seeing the vascular nurse later in the week so she can explore other options with her.
The deal is she will ring if she needs help, the problem is she doesn’t want to bother me - I live five minutes away- so I’m dropping in several times a day just in case and then she insists on putting them on herself! I’m allowed to pull them off when she’s got them past her heel. I’ve told her I don’t want her death certificate to say ‘heart attack while dealing with compression stockings’ as cause of death.

Would she be able to apply farrow wraps? https://www.jobst.co.uk/products/product-detail/jobst-farrowwrap-classic.html

would mean bending down to the ankle and decent finger strength.

I think the wraps could be too tight. Thank you for the suggestion.
