Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just brewing my first cuppa of the day then I'll drink it in my kitchen spot. There was snow here last night & even my grotty back garden looks pretty. No-one else is up yet so it's nice and quiet for now.

We're meant to be heading into town for the girls' dad today & then either Starbucks or Costa - dd2's choice. I'm not entirely sure that's a good idea though so might suggest after school another day or next weekend instead.

If we don't go out, we'll get some more decorations up & I'll carry on with my last set of peg people for the year & the girls will likely do their homework and mooch about the house.

Gammon for tea, with pineapple, egg, chips, and beans. I'll pop it in the slow cooker in a mo 😋

Later on, probably some sort of crafting for me in front of Food Network, dd2 will definitely have her weekly catch up with a friend at a different school, and I'm not sure what dd1 will do!

What about all of you? 🙂

We are doing the tree later but I wish I'd not got it all out for another week, house has shrunk with stuff everywhere!

PurpleChrayne · 03/12/2023 10:04

Lazy morning so far.

Soon we will drag ourselves out to the local kosher deli to get bagels and also pick up some catering for a small event we're holding tomorrow at synagogue.

Then home for hot chocolate and films.

Simonjt · 03/12/2023 10:07

Morning everyone. We’ve all been swimming this morning and had breakfast out.

We’re off to ikea in a bit as I broke our coffee table, tripped over the cat, fell on it and snapped it in half 😳

We’re going to a little forest picnic thing later, our sons school have organised it so there will be a little hot food thing, games for the kids etc for a few hours, so he is looking forward to that and playing with everyone.

Movie night tonight, we haven’t picked what we’re watching yet, it looks like the two current favourites are tangled and the land before time.

Have a lovely Sunday

Ooooooh bagels. Yum. I miss living in London and proper bagels and knish.

hby9628 · 03/12/2023 10:11

Popping to see my dad. I think the kids want to do some decs so I might get them down now to do when we get home.
I should do some house work but not sure I can be bothered.
I'll treat myself to a shower & hair wash and see if that helps wake me up a bit!

Hedjwitch · 03/12/2023 10:14

Still in bed with cat. Must get up and feed the birds and go and see mother who had a fall yesterday. Have cancelled our plan to take her out to meet dd2 for coffee.
Will do the red cabbage in the slow cooker today and freeze it and marzipan the cake. Plan to make lip balms and herbal tea mixes later on, and bottle up the elderberry brandy.
DS popping home tonight so he can do mum's tree tomorrow. Its a tradition that its his special job since he was a wee boy. He's nearly 22 now and currently in panto in Glasgow,so he'll come over after the show.

FortunataTagnips · 03/12/2023 10:14

Morning! I’m still on the sofa in my dressing gown, drinking coffee.
We’re all completely wrecked today, as DD woke up at 11.30 last night and then just … stayed up.
DP’s taken her to her Sunday club, which she insisted she still wanted to go to, but I’m sure she’ll crash at some point.
My dad’s going to pop in for a cup of tea later - he’s been on holiday so will be good to catch up.
Loads of washing to do and then it’s just a case of limping on until bedtime.

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I've cleared the path of snow, front and back, put down salt and cleared the car of snow too. I've walked to Aldi to get a sense of how bad the roads are and I'm currently having a cuppa and eating a pancake. Shortly I'll empty and load the dishwasher. Then do an ironing. I might visit mum this afternoon then home for roast chicken. Stay safe all.

Peridot1 · 03/12/2023 10:15

Morning @lucysmam.

Quiet one here today. We had friends over for dinner last night so still clearing up from that. I like to take my time with it and do it in stages. One more dishwasher load to go I think.

DS came home from uni on Friday. With a large bag of washing. So I’m working my way through that.

I have a Christmas jigsaw advent calendar and I didn’t get to do yesterday’s box so I have two to do today. And planning on just reading my book afterwards.

We might start getting the Christmas stuff down from the loft. Or I may just tidy the spare room to make space for it all first. There is a lot!

Italian pork chops with dauphinois potatoes and veg for dinner.

We love Knish too, my husband taught us how to make them, they’re actually very easy to do, you can even freeze them, and as long as you defrost them overnight in the fridge (to keep the pastry cold) you can make them in advance before you fry them.

lucysmam · 03/12/2023 10:17

Oh @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie she's lovely!

Had a very beautiful and frosty early morning walk with the hound. Then did an hour working on assessment (teacher heading towards end of term data drop). Now I am drinking tea and thinking about venturing out to the garage to get the Christmas boxes out as I might start decorating. Both children hopefully home from university next weekend, so want to get the house done by then. So many trees seem to be up already and I think Im behind the curve.

FortunataTagnips · 03/12/2023 10:21

Ooh, DP has to drive past multiple bagel bakeries on his way back from dropping DD. I might have to ask him to pick some up…

NewspaperTaxis · 03/12/2023 10:21

A pre-Xmas clear out really, one 'junk' room needs emptying, stuff needs rearranging to maximise space - taking advantage of having the place to myself for most of today, it's just easier to empty out when it's just me.

Christmas on top of clutter feels wrong, like putting spangly underwear on when you haven't had a shower. Plus, it's the end of the year, it's like an all-round deadline is approaching to get stuff done.

So no decorations up yet but maybe later today there might be - see how it goes. Need to rake the lawn again too, it's boring, but as there's rain next week forecast it's best to do it before rather than after.

Might open a bottle of French Malbec later.

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 03/12/2023 10:23

Blood donation and then looking at new houses.

ErnestCelendine · 03/12/2023 10:23

Done some yoga (with adriene) and drank lots of coffee. Taking DD to a dance exam and then plan on wrapping some Christmas presents ready to post and giving the living room a clean ready for the tree arriving on Saturday.
Also need to iron some work clothes and clean the bathroom, so boring stuff like that which will make the week ahead easier.

mondaytosunday · 03/12/2023 10:24

Had a late lie in and just surfacing! Though I did feed the cats let the dogs out earlier. Today's mission is to get the tree. Was supposed to yesterday but my teen daughter decided no - and I wasn't going to push it (university interviews this week - tension running high).
This also means tidying the livingroom. Normally a much bigger tree goes in the open plan kitchen/diner but we are away this year so getting a smaller one that should fit in the front room. Got the decs out ready to go!
After picking tree daughter is off to see friends so I'll get the lights on and then we can do it tomorrow (no college on Mondays). What I also need to do is book my flu and covid booster... I think I can do that online.

MercuryRising · 03/12/2023 10:24

I've cleaned the house in preparation for the decorations to go up. I'm going to have a quick bath then take DSs to buy some new decorations so we can put the tree up. This afternoon I need to do a food shop but after that I have a relaxed afternoon admiring the tree planned.

TheChosenTwo · 03/12/2023 10:26

Went for a swim, home now and just had some breakfast, bagel with avocado and smoked salmon.
dh has just gone to buy some tickets for him and ds to go and watch the local football team this afternoon.
i’ll get some washing on and sit in front of the fire this afternoon while they’re out.
dd2 is at work so it will be lovely and peaceful!

mondaytosunday · 03/12/2023 10:27

Also finish my Christmas cards! 15 down 30 to go!

vernatheraven · 03/12/2023 10:32

Husband has gone into work for a couple of hours so I'm going to lie on the bed reading the internet.

Going to walk the dogs at 12 for a couple of hours then I'm coming home and cracking open my birthday champagne from earlier this week.

I've got a new martina cole so I'm going to get a bit merry and read that.

Daughter has a new book also and my DH will go the gym when I get back from walking the dogs and I think she said he's making duck ♥️ tonight.

Perfect day

Oh @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie she's lovely!

Isn’t she beautiful? I really wish I could do stuff like that, but I’m too clumsy.

IDontLikePinaColadas · 03/12/2023 10:53

Morning all! Just finished my second pint of tea in my huge Christmas mug, whilst DP is making us bacon and eggs before we go and do the glass blowing course I bought him for Christmas several years ago and haven’t managed to do yet.

dontforgetme · 03/12/2023 11:34

Good morning @lucysmam and all!!

Quiet, slow morning here. Oh has taken ds for a walk around the park and to feed the ducks this morning, I stayed home and changed all the beds. They are both currently playing on the PlayStation whilst I carry on with cleaning and laundry. Will wash my hair and get ready soon for a roast at the in laws. Feeling very festive this weekend, we only had a flutter of snow but it was lovely to wake up to this morning!

dixeypeach · 03/12/2023 11:41

Lazy day for us going a have a very chilled Sunday. I'm cooking a roast and catching up on washing then it's Xmas movies and a game of monopoly. Dd9 has never played grown up monopoly only the kids one so this should be fun 🤩
