What do you take for pain?

I'm on the verge of throwing myself out the window or buying ketamine in a bus stop or something.

I have labral tears in both hips and am in constant pain. Can't walk or exercise. Even sitting is painful. I'm on the waiting list to see a specialist but it's a year long.

Ibuprofen, paracetamol and codeine do nothing. What can I do? I think the pain is muscular more than the joint itself from everything being thrown off but nothing is touching it.

Ice packs, then heat? Naproxen and prescription codeine? Speak to GP. There are different medications like nerve blockers. Can you get steroid injections? Obviously I'm not an expert!!!

Second above. Ice and heat.
hot baths with epsom salts.
Can the pain clinic see you?
So sorry OP

I have bad nerve pain and now it's gone because I started taking amitriptyline- it's cured my migraines, nerve pain, and helps anxiety/depression. But before that I was like you, to the point I had constant thoughts of being un-alive. These are the things that helped: warmth in general, long hot baths with epsom salts and CBD (you can buy it already mixed up online) Arnica gel, keeping my joints in neutral positions, and good old fashioned marijuana. It's legal in every way where I live but I do believe it's available with prescription most other places. If you can get a script for codeine (I wouldn't be able to! It and most pain meds are nearly outlawed here!) you should be able to get a prescription for medical weed too. If you can get some fresh CBD bud and roll it with the weed it's like a magical pain pill. Edibles are healthier but seriously, either way it really works. CBD smoked on its own works amazingly too and no psychoactive effects. If you get the tincture it's very expensive but the really concentrated doses work okayish. CBG tincture also works really well, also expensive and possibly hard to find- I had to get it from a weed dispensary. It's a travesty you have to wait so long just to be seen. I really hope someone on this thread gives you an idea that helps you 💐
Forgot to add- I did get steroid injections at one point just in my knees. They really do work. I had total body pain so it wasn't amazing, but if your pain is in an isolated area at least for me it really worked well.

Thanks @flowerchild2000 . I did try some CBD patches (at great expense) but they didn't do much for me. Not really into actual weed but who knows, maybe it can't hurt at this stage. I tried some magic mushrooms hoping they would do something but sadly they didn't.

Butec patches, they are supposed to be the next step up after codeine and as they are week long patches it's a constant stream into your system. They come in different strengths, I started on 5mg, then 10, now on 15.

For nerve pain I take a very high dose of gabapentin and a low dose of pregablin as well.

Mushrooms are more cerebral I think. Although they could be helpful for the mental aspect of dealing with pain. The best thing about legal weed is you can research the strains and find one that suits you. It's incredible how far we've come on that. You can find one that's been bred specifically for physical pain, with a mellow high or a happy high, etc. I haven't been using much at all since I found a med that works, but I did have a daytime weed that didn't get in the way of life, and a nighttime that helped me sleep. It's something you can micro dose too. It's worth a shot, especially if your mental health is affected.

Oramorphe! Hope you feel better soon

70sDuvet · 03/12/2023 10:24

I have laberal tears in my hips and have just had a 2nd round of steroid injections.....they are amazing!

I also take 2 kinds of morphine - instant and slow release, but I do also have a rare autoimmune disease which causes Rheumatoid Arthritis, connective tissue disease and other random aches and pains so I don't know if your GP would put you straight on to it.

But the steroids are purely for the lateral tears and work so well. Go to your GP and ask about them. Some GPs are trained to do them in surgery, or you may need referred on.
I sympathise they really make you want to cut your legs off to make the pains stop.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. To help with pain I take amitriptyline too and paracetamol osteo, Meloxicam and ecitolopram prescribed after a stint in a pain clinic with a specialist. I also stretch, swim, use heat patches, do pilates and er drink and say no to more stuff. While you're in the grip of chronic pain it is very depressing especially when you lose function. Keep advocating for yourself

I'm truly sorry to hear about the intense pain you're experiencing. It must be incredibly challenging to deal with labral tears in both hips, especially when traditional pain medications aren't providing relief. Waiting a year to see a specialist sounds incredibly frustrating.
In the meantime, have you explored any alternative pain management strategies? While waiting for your specialist appointment, it might be beneficial to seek support from professionals like www.asappaindocs.com. Their expertise in managing various types of pain could offer you some relief or guidance on coping mechanisms.
