Is your home warmer upstairs or downstairs?

I’m sitting in my bedroom doing online Christmas shopping as it’s too cold downstairs but lovely and warm up here! I’ll stay up here for the evening I think. Dc in their bedrooms too. What’s it like in your house?

15.9 downstairs and 19.4 upstairs. Harder to heat downstairs because the kitchen has a flat roof and nothing above it, so the radiators struggle. And all the heat generated downstairs rises...upstairs. Thermostats set to 20

Warmer upstairs.
When we are downstairs we are sitting with heated throws on to keep us warm. Heating is only on 17 though tbf.

Lovely upstairs, chilly downstairs, not helped by massive patio style windows in the kitchen and an ill fitting front door!

Gwenhwyfar · 02/12/2023 18:46

Warmer downstairs because upstairs is the (habitable) attic. The attic gets extremely hot in summer.

slumberlogmillionaire · 02/12/2023 18:47

Upstairs is warmer but the living room which is small is quite cosy, poor DH works in the kitchen he is wfh and its very chilly this time of year.

Pyjamaramma · 02/12/2023 19:22

Hot air rises.

greenacrylicpaint · 02/12/2023 19:24

warmer downstairs.
mainly because we heat the living room and bathroom only. and keep doors closed.

Bethebest · 02/12/2023 19:26

Warmer upstairs as heating on upstairs for kids in bed so I’m also up here rather than hearing downstairs too.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 02/12/2023 19:36

Downstairs is between 19 and 22° thanks to the log burner, upstairs is between 14 and 16°.

MonkeyPuddle · 02/12/2023 19:48

Downstairs is warmer. Because I have the bedroom windows open.

UngratefulOldCabbage · 02/12/2023 19:50

Downstairs is warmer - upstairs has a flat roof which I suspect has rubbish insulation so doesn't stay warm as well. A job for another year!

HeraSyndulla · 02/12/2023 19:50

Depends which room.

Polis · 02/12/2023 19:51

Warmest downstairs in the sitting room because we have the fire lit.

RandomUsernameHere · 02/12/2023 19:56

Upstairs is notably warmer, was just thinking this the other day. Apart from DD's room which is in the loft.

WeightoftheWorld · 02/12/2023 19:57

Warmer downstairs, we have the downstairs radiators all set to max but upstairs ones are on lower. We don't spend much time upstairs during the daytime and then we have thick duvets/sleeping bags/electric blankets/oil-filled heaters depending on who you are in th family for overnight.

TheDandyLion · 02/12/2023 20:02

Upstairs because the staircase is straight off the open living/kitchen/diner space and it makes the whole space cold. Not my choice of house layout but renter's can't be choosers.

Lovemusic82 · 02/12/2023 20:04

Mines warmer upstairs. We have no carpet downstairs so the floors are cold, also seems to be a few drafty bits around the front doors. Upstairs seems much warmer so I have been spending more time up there.

Spendonsend · 02/12/2023 20:05

Downstairs.
Our upstairs is cold as the heaters arent on up there.
Downstairs we have a fire and cooking warmth.

KThnxBye · 02/12/2023 20:14

Downstairs, living room is warm, kitchen is cold though. Upstairs very cold atm. 9.7 in the bedroom this morning.

Toddler101 · 02/12/2023 20:20

Depends on time of day 😀

Warmer downstairs in the day because we keep the doors shut to keep the little one contained so heat gets 'locked in'.

Cooler downstairs in the evening - we keep the doors open to listen out for the little ones!

IHS · 02/12/2023 20:26

12.5 out in the hallway. The only warm room is the sitting room which has the multi fuel stove in.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 02/12/2023 20:28

Upstairs, it's open plan so all the hot air rises. I often hang out in my bedroom when it's cold during the day and the heating isn't on.

Tulipsroses · 02/12/2023 20:32

Downstairs is about 22, upstairs 19. We have underfloor heating downstairs and rarely turn on radiators upstairs.

sandletown · 02/12/2023 20:42

Upstairs is too hot. Living room is 23. Kitchen/family room is 17

KevinDeBrioche · 02/12/2023 20:45

Warmer downstairs because we balance the radiators to keep bedrooms / less used rooms cooler than the sitting room. Kitchen doesn’t need as much heat either as we are either busy or cooking / eating in there.
