Christmas Eve vs. Christmas Day

(Hah! Silly title I know, it’s not like they’re about to go three rounds in a boxing ring 😂)

Just a chat I was having with a couple of friends as to whether we preferred Christmas Eve or the actual day itself.

What are your thoughts MN?

@lesdeluges I’m very jealous! Have a great time away from the ‘festivities’.

BeansOnToast32 · 02/12/2023 13:40

Christmas Eve is my favourite day of the year!

caringcarer · 02/12/2023 13:52

I'm not keen on Xmas Eve because I always end up spending half the night wrapping up gifts and DH is useless at wrapping so he preps the vegetables, writes out gift tags and keeps my wine glass topped up whilst I plod on with wrapping. I do enjoy Xmas day especially seeing my DC but love Boxing day when we eat leftovers have a long walk with the dogs and watch crap TV.

Draw between Christmas day and Boxing day. I always find Christmas eve a bit stressful as there is so much to do and then we always end up wrapping presents at midnight.

I am jealous you finish at midnight. I often keep going until 2-3am.

Oh both! Early breakfast on CE, then 50 minutes drive for lunch in a pub, mooch in the shops, then drop everyone at home then i drive to the supermarket to pick up a few cheap fresh turkeys for the freezer and whatever else we need. Then home to prep the veg and chilli

then CD morning i go for an hour walk up a hill/mountain. Home to shower, bubbly, Lunch, then chill and eat and drink in front of the fire.

BD is a day for DH and the kids to watch football so i go for a long walk with my friend, have a pint then walk home to watch tv and warm up with some port

Boxing Day! All the cooking has been done so you can enjoy the leftovers/have a stress-free day enjoying presents etc.

Christmas Eve but that is the main day for us, when we have our Christmas meal and open presents. The 23rd is good though, the anticipation.

Mazuslongtoenail · 02/12/2023 14:23

I love the anticipation of Christmas Eve. So glad it falls on a weekend this year.

All of you up until the early hours on Christmas Eve present wrapping, couldn’t you do it earlier??

We tend to spread it throughout December to avoid it becoming a massive task

hopeishere · 02/12/2023 14:29

Boxing Day is my favourite!!

Lizzieregina · 02/12/2023 14:29

Our big family celebration is Christmas Eve. It’s a lot of work, but usually a nice get together.

Christmas Day is just our nuclear family at home with one breakfast guest and one dinner guest. Much more relaxed than Christmas Eve.

Boxing Day is just another day here. Back to work for most people. It was quite an adjustment for me as it used to be my favourite.

Bobje · 02/12/2023 16:47

Christmas Eve is way out in the lead!

I wondered this too.

Presumably they do their shopping later, have bought extra bits or just are busy.
