How do I insulate my home cheaply?

My backdoor, kitchen, front room and front door are all one big through space. I have spent this week in my bedroom where it's warmest this week

What's the cheapest way to insulate/warm up this space?

Curtain rail above backdoor and front door with a thick floor length curtain for each. Draft excluder for base of both doors (a rolled up blanket would do too). Window insulation cling film the glass on the door/windows. Radiator foil behind radiators.

Do you have a loft, cavity walls? What are the biggest causes of heat loss?

Those are so simple, thank you!

See if your local council offer grants.

Buy an electric throw and heat up yourself instead - much more efficient than heating up the whole space.

The key is to stop as much cold air coming in as possible. So floor length curtains in front of doors and windows, draught excluders at the bottoms of doors (you can make them really easily out of old clothes and a tight or stocking), the window film (also stops condensation), silver bubble wrap behind radiators. And slippers, thick socks and an extra jumper or fleece hoodie for when you're home.

Radiator foil under the carpets.

I've emailed them, thank you.

Check charity shops or local curtain exchanges for drapes to cover front door, back door and windows to block draughts.

If you have hard floors, look for rugs, especially wool rugs.

Foil or silver bubble wrap behind radiators.

Check that your loft has at least 20cm of insulation. I did my own loft. It's easy as long as you are careful, you'll need a mask and a stanley knife. It took most of a day but raised the temperature in my bedroom by 3 degrees.
