And am bricking it
I've got an interview for a promotion
I have to do a presentation, have been given the question in advance.
After thinking my direct manager and area manager would be interviewing me, it looks like it's the area manager and a manager from another site
How long should the presentation be? Can I take notes in with me?

I have never had to have an internal interview like this so am a bit scared!

I have a week to prepare

Yes I would take some notes with me. Depends what it is all about how long it should be. Do you need to prepare a PowerPoint or anything? You can do this!

My best tip is to have a dress rehearsal - get someone trusted to watch you deliver it and give honest feedback.

You need to ask them for more information. How long is it supposed to be? Do they want PowerPoint or is it up to you?

Agree with practising. Say it out loud to yourself till you’re comfortable with it.

In my field, they expect you to be proactive and come back to them with questions. So it's a good sign if you ask how long, what tech. Will u have access to e.g. computer/powepoint and how many ppl will b watching.
Well done for getting the interview. Any time u feel overwhelmed just tell yourself it will all be over either way in a week!

Definitely ask how long because it could be anything from 3 to 30 minutes depending on various factors.

If you're using PowerPoint if you use presenter mode, your audience see the full PPT but you can see the notes section for each slide and the next slide so you know what's coming up.

Avoid the usual “death by PowerPoint “ traps

  • slides should be well designed with minimal text
  • don’t read the text - use it as a prompt
  • avoid rambling on
  • avoid having 101 slides
  • aspire to be engaging
  • as per PP do a run through with someone for honest feedback
  • Summarise your main points at the end in a clear and concise manner
