Views of violent acts. Images of people falling down stairs

Just to say I would never act on thoughts

Can you be a bit clearer about what you mean? Are you watching videos on tik tok etc or are you having intrusive thoughts or seeing visions?

Universalsnail · 30/11/2023 21:27

These sound like intrusive thoughts and are usually associated with OCD.

Changingplace · 30/11/2023 21:28

Do you mean these are the things you’re search for to get watch, or is this what someone else is doing?

wp65 · 30/11/2023 21:37

Intrusive thoughts, OP. Associates with OCD. More common than you might think, and very treatable. Don't panic - there's nothing wrong with you. Therapists can help you learn techniques to manage them.

chrimmy · 30/11/2023 21:51

OCD!

SutWytTi · 30/11/2023 21:58

Intrusive thoughts. Read up on them. Very common.

Intrusive thoughts are unexpected images or thoughts that seem to pop into your head. They’re often strange or distressing. But these thoughts happen to almost everyone from time to time.

If you get them a lot or are worried, speak to your GP.

If these are causing you distress and affecting your functioning it could be OCD.

Hi, my husband has ocd, but it's intrusive thoughts, this part of ocd is called pure o in his case, it's not violent thoughts like what your experiencing but very strange things like if I say.. Yeah I was in town I met Gary, remember him from school? He would be yeah I remember him, then think how does she know Gary, have they been together, what did they do, blah, blah. All absolutely innocent but his illness makes innocent passing things grow arms and legs and become in his mind a very, very big thing. 😔 . He now has cbt and is treated with olazapine and seroxat and that really helps plus help from he local mental health team and psychiatry. Xx

Yes, sounds like intrusive thoughts. I suffered terribly with these postpartum with my second. It started with flashes of ‘what would happen if the ceiling fell in and crushed us/ the baby drowned in the bath’ and progressed to ‘what if I just snapped and drowned the baby’ 🫤

It was very scary and upsetting. What helped me was to realise that the thoughts were caused by anxiety/hyper vigilance and were absolutely NOT things that I wanted to do. Once I stopped being so anxious about experiencing them (and stopped the guilt and self-judgement that come with thinking such awful things) they petered out. I also started taking a low dose of Sertraline, which may have helped: this was mostly for the overwhelm and brain fog I was experiencing though, rather than the intrusive thoughts.

This is a hundred percent OCD. Intrusive thoughts. I have severe OCD and have some horrible thoughts. It is and can be a debilitating mental illness. Go see your GP and you can self refer to NHS talking therapies for some CBT if they offer this in your area.

You’re really brave to post this. I hope you’re 100% better now and you honestly don’t know how helpful it is that you were honest about what you were struggling with.
