I'm going to see this at the weekend and I am very very excited.

Has anyone been to see it?

I’m going in February!

LlynTegid · 30/11/2023 19:37

No, let us know once you've been.

LadyMacbeth55 · 30/11/2023 20:00

Yes! It was really good however if you're going to the Liverpool one consider parking elsewhere - the car parking is a nightmare. Fine going in but it took us about 40 minutes to get out of the carpark, no organisation or system - and it put a damper on the night.

SoftKittyBazinga · 30/11/2023 20:09

So jealous. Hope it’s awesome!

I'm getting a lift from my DH. Taking my Dd.

What did you wear? I've never been to anything like this is jeans and a nice top ok? Smart casual?

I literally cannot wait.

I will report back.

I've emailed and asked if it's ok for a ten year old and they said it's fine.

Saw it last week. Pay your car parking in advance and leave by the back exit - ie. Turn right out of the car park not left, someone has helpfully moved the massive concrete blocks so you can access the back service road onto Edge Lane 😉.

One2threego · 08/12/2023 23:02

@vernatheraven @LadyMacbeth55 @WittynotPretty I’m going to the matinee next Thursday 14th. Is the parking still as bad as you’ve said? I have prepaid but happy for any alternative tips!

foreverbasil · 08/12/2023 23:15

Jeans and jumper is fine. It's a bit chilly but great venue and production. Parking is indeed a nightmare. There are retail parks nearby with parking but I'm not sure if they have time restrictions.

Squidlette · 09/12/2023 20:07

I went today. Parking was fine. I just paid and parked. Bit of a queue getting out, but then, I live near Cheshire oaks, so that's nothing new.

I dressed for a warehouse, but it wasn't too cold really.

I enjoyed it, but Patrick Stewart is still my definitive Macbeth. Varma is a cracking Lady M though; you can feel the frustration at her idiot fucking husband radiating from her.

vernatheraven · 10/12/2023 18:30

Yes varma was great. They all were. I really enjoyed it.

Can't comment on the parking my DH dropped us off.

It was great it was my first "proper" theatre experience and we really enjoyed it.

I'd really like to see carmen if anyone has any recommendations of where to see it.

Saw him as Richard ll way back in 2000… no stage performance has taken my breath away since. Total maestro.
Enjoy!

HermioneWeasley · 10/12/2023 18:35

I thought Indira Varma was superb, but Ralph Fiennes lacked the physical threat of Macbeth. The Times review said he was more introspective like Hamlet and I thought that was spot on.

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 10/12/2023 18:35

Ah! You’ve been and enjoyed already. 👏

sleepwouldbenice · 10/12/2023 20:00

We are going Tuesday eve. How long does it last please?

YouBelongWithMe · 10/12/2023 20:02

I'm going in Edinburgh next year. Can't wait!

Think it was about 2 and 1/2 hours. Quite a lengthy interval and plenty of toilets

Mumdiva99 · 10/12/2023 20:25

Very jealous. But I couldn't justify another play. My eldest 2 are both studying Romeo and Juliet so we are seeing that in the new year.

Carmen is being shown in the cinemas next year - Google event cinema - its the stage show but on the big screen and a great way to watch show that are either too expensive or not convenient to get to.

sleepwouldbenice · 11/12/2023 17:32

Thanks re times

StColumbofNavron · 11/12/2023 17:42

Seeing this in London in Feb. I saw Varma in The Seagull and she utterly stole the show. I saw Fiennes in Anthony and Cleopatra and he was great, but he was on stage with Sophie Okonedo who is beyond compare. I watch every Macbeth that comes through London and I get something new every single time.

I felt he played it a bit like your annoying uncle, who can't hold his drink. But I guess they were going for the weak, fallible man angle, rather than menacing colossus.
I'm always interested to see how they play the 'she should have died hereafter' bit. Quite liked the grief stricken version.

Yes, his “tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow” was excellent- it really worked

catwithflowers · 11/12/2023 20:38

I got really excited for a minute and thought about booking tickets in Edinburgh as a surprise Christmas present. Then I looked at the prices 😳
