Online grocery delivery always early

Cailiflowercheeeese · 30/11/2023 15:47

This is the 4th time in a row that my food shopping delivery has arrived almost an hour before my time slot. I purposely pick a set time slot each week to work around my baby’s feed and nap so they have buggered it up and it makes me flustered and stressed yet again. I know they are supposed to wait until your time slot but last week the man was about to leave because I wasn’t home 40 minutes before my time slot, he text me asking where I was but I couldn’t respond as I was driving back from an appointment. it was lucky I arrived home in time to catch him. I emailed the supermarket a complaint who responded with “ ask them to wait “ very helpful. At the moment I can’t shop in store because I’m still recovering from a difficult birth so it’s too painful for me, but I’m getting so peed off with it. Not to mention the fact I pay extra £ for the time slot I book compared to the one they arrive for! Any one else having issues lately?

Just ask them to wait or don't respond, it's not a big deal.

TootOnTheBends · 30/11/2023 15:56

Who with?
Asda aren’t allowed to be more than 15 mins early. We’ve seen them park at the end of our road for 10 mins, waiting to drive up to deliver. We’ve said we don’t mind, as we’re in, but they say they’re not allowed to!

Could you change supermarket to one who’s deliveries suit you better?

Sceptre86 · 30/11/2023 16:06

Is it Asda because we usually do a later slot on a Saturday and have had this several times. We purposefully choose a later slot as we usually visit mil on a Saturday. I've missed calls previously as I've not expected to hear from them so early. Often it's that they've finished the deliveries and just want to get home so can't be arsed waiting for the timeslot.

Yep same issue here! Especially with Asda & Ocado. I missed the last delivery because I was on the school run and Ocado were over an hour early. Had to wait a week for a refund I was fuming as needed the shop for DC's packed lunches the next day. Had to go back out to shop.

That's interesting! I've always had Asda and without fail they are always at least 30 mins early.

The record was last week, slot booked for 6-7 and they turned up at just gone 4! Luckily I happened to be in as something else was cancelled. Usually it's not an issue but sometimes a grumpy driver seems very put out about me not being home in time.

OP can you change supermarkets?

Cailiflowercheeeese · 30/11/2023 16:27

Yes it’s asda. Clearly they are the culprit then! I’ll try sainsburys from next week. Such a pain, I can’t believe they get away with leaving when they were early!

I've recently started having the same issue with Tesco, they used to always text asking if it was ok to come earlier but 3 out of my last 4 deliveries they have just turned up without warning.

Wonderblue · 30/11/2023 16:30

I agree, this happens to me with Asda too. I purposely pick a time when dh is home as we have three small kids, but there have been times when they have turned up early and I’ve got all the dc in the bath and no dh home!!! Really annoying. Other times they have called to ask which I always appreciate, as on occasion we can make it work.

mondaytosunday · 30/11/2023 16:40

Ocaso get there early sometimes but Tesco always calls ahead to ask if I'm around. I'd make a delivery note attached to your order (I think you can do that?) saying you can not take early deliveries.

poignant · 30/11/2023 16:42

I order from Sainsbury's and never has had this problem. They usually come 15 after the time slots starts.

Stephisaur · 30/11/2023 16:43

Morrisons and Ocado are good for the online shops. They still give you bags (which they take back too!) and if they are running early then they call to ask if that's ok. If not, they come back during the appropriate slot.

LeRougeEtLeNoir · 30/11/2023 16:45

Tesco has been coming early recently but have always been very apologetic about it.
If no one had been there, I think they would have waited. (But I’ll ask next time!)

Namechange13101 · 30/11/2023 16:49

I’m with Sainsbury’s and they usually call if they are going to be more than 10mins early and I’ve had times when I’ve not been in and told the driver that and they’ve just come back in the time slot

User136921 · 30/11/2023 16:50

Tesco are sometimes 5 or 10 minutes early but they sometimes sit down the road in the van if very early

TheresaCrowd · 30/11/2023 16:51

We get a Morrisons delivery every single week and about 90% of the time it's early.

But the driver always phones and asks if it's ok.

Lookingatthesunset · 30/11/2023 16:54

Would a later timeslot work better so your partner could take the delivery?

I once ordered from Asda and Sainsburys, two different timeslots.

One was early, the other late - so I had the Sainsburys man pull in right behind the Asda one... mortified!

Cailiflowercheeeese · 30/11/2023 16:59

The asda drivers have never asked or apologised. I mentioned he was early today hoping he’d explain but he laughed with a ‘yeah’ 🤨. I find being early far more rude than being late but maybe I’m just a grump lol.
I booked 4-5 today and 5-6 last week, they came at 3.05 today and 3.30 last week! I think if I even booked midnight it wouldn’t make a difference.
Haha oh no sunset how awkward!

Co op do it. It's always before the 2 hour slot. Only 10 mins but there has been times I've seen them at my front door and had to run. 40 minutes is ridiculous. It's a stupid practice because people ask for a specific time for a reason.

NeverneverNO12or3 · 30/11/2023 17:18

I use tesco, they usually park round the corner till its time. I've actually put a message on saying please ring first if you want to deliver early. I have a disability which means I need someone here to help me hence the time slot I choose I had a problem with both asda and morrisons turning up early hence why I now use tesco.

blackpinkinyourarea · 30/11/2023 17:40

I use asda and they always wait or ring first if early. My driver last week was only 5 minutes early and he knocked on my door first to make sure i was home, before unloading. I think you may want to try a different supermarket?

mindutopia · 30/11/2023 17:51

We use Tesco and for probably the last year, they’re always early too. Often it’s fine because we’re around. But sometimes I’m not home, but driving like you and can’t answer if they ring. It’s annoying. I don’t mind them coming early, but if no one is home, the solution shouldn’t be to ring and then leave if you don’t answer. A couple times I’ve come home to a ‘You missed your delivery card’ that said my order would be cancelled. Fortunately, it still wasn’t even my delivery slot yet, so when I rang, customer service could obviously see that they’d come early and made them come back to deliver. Once I literally chased them down in the next village to get my shopping.

bravefox · 30/11/2023 17:56

We order from Sainsbury's and this happens about once a month.

Worst bit is they always act like they've done you a favour by pitching up 45 mins early on a Sunday when we're still in bed!

daffodilandtulip · 30/11/2023 18:09

Asda? I drop off DC, five minutes away, for 6:30 so book for 7pm and the amount of times they've phoned me while I'm driving back, asking where I am and how long I'll be, because they are waiting. And they aren't polite about it, it's somehow your fault.

wideawakeinthemiddleofthenightagain · 30/11/2023 19:15

Sainsburys usually call. They also wait if you ask them to. They also came back voluntarily on the day I completely forgot what time my slot was and had gone out! The guy said he was in the area all day and so, each time he came past, he checked if we were back! I guess that is possibly easier than them having to unload the shopping when they get back to the shop at the end of the day.

LongAndWindingRoads · 30/11/2023 19:23

Our local supermarket often has over 800 online orders a day. I would imagine trying to narrow them all down to within an hour must be a nightmare, especially with van issues, traffic issues and staff issues, if some of the pickers or drivers are off sick the orders run late, also some of the night time deliveries don't show up on time which causes chaos with the orders.
