Hello all
Putting in chat for traffic and hoping someone with medical knowledge might be able to shed some light.
I have diagnosed lupus and fibromyalgia and have been ill on and off for around 15 years, with things getting considerably worse since I had Covid for the first time in 2020. I suffer from recurring infections and I also suffer from severe anaemia (alongside pernicious anaemia/megaloblastic anaemia) which no cause for can be found and have various blood and iron transfusions semi regularly to keep me "on my feet". I also have extremely high platelets, again seemingly with no cause and high white blood cells even when not suffering an infection.
I've seen any number of specialists over the years, and no answers have ever been forthcoming. I'm on a combination of painkillers and not much else.
Then very randomly earlier in the year my GP spotted that my bad cholesterol was high- something which runs on my mother's side of the family with lots of them being on statins from a young age. I took plant statins and changed my diet but after six months of this my cholesterol was actually worse and GP decided as there's family history they'd put me on Atorvastatin. This was in August.
Now this is the weird bit: since being put on the Atorvastatin I've felt much better. More energy, fewer days of feeling like I can't get out of bed and— curiously—no colds/viruses/infections. Prior to this I was getting an infection every 4-6 weeks from catching a cold or virus; like clockwork. Between Jan and Aug 2023 I'd had six courses of antibiotics.
I haven't seen GP for review yet (I was meant to last week but it's been pushed because- ironically- doctor has Covid) so I wondered if anyone with a medical/science background might be able to shed some light on why I might be feeling better/my body is responding this way. Taking the Atorvastatin has been my only change of anything.
TIA!
