Kids' Bubble bath soap that is very bubbly but still good for eczema

Hi all,

Both the kids love lots and lots of bubbles in their bath but I find that most bubble baths that are moisturising (e.g child's farm) aren't very bubbly and you need half a bottle to get a few bubbles for a few minutes. Bath bombs seem to do the trick but I think they aren't great for their skin. Both of them are prone to have very dry skin and get eczema in winter.

Any ideas?

Recently I've made far too MANY bubbles using kids Sanex and filling the bath with the shower. Mega hard water area too

DumboHimalayan · 29/11/2023 10:45

Decent quantities of bubbles are almost always created by use of particular surfactants, usually SLS, so if they're sensitised to SLS that's a bit of a bugger.

Following for ideas.

I bought the Simple kids bubble bath but it makes DS itchy.. and it actually makes my arm itchy too when I put it in the water.. so it can’t be great.

Thanks I'll try the sanex one. I don't think we can ever have too many bubbles (famous last words...).

I don't know if they are sensitised to sls. Just that they generally have sensitive eczema prone skin.

Also, at the risk of hijacking my own thread, could anyone recommend a cute and cuddly hot water bottle for 7 year old DD?

My DD has eczema and we don’t use any type of soap because it dries out the skin. You can get bath emollients but we use lots of dermol 500 when the hot water is blasting into the bath and it creates lots of bubbles.

I use the Aldi kids one that looks like the Sanex bottle but I don't find it as harsh as Sanex.

DumboHimalayan · 29/11/2023 10:53

Impossible to know unless you try cutting out SLS — DP and I both have dry skin and eczema; he's sensitised, I'm not. (My suspicion is that years of slathering on aqueous cream as a cheap prescribed moisturiser, on doctors' instructions, sensitised him to it — these days, though, I think people are more aware it's ONLY for use as a soap substitute, not a moisturiser, so perhaps kids with eczema don't get sensitised to SLS so much any more!) My only suggestion would be sluicing them off in the shower afterwards, to avoid leaving any irritants on the skin. Bit counterproductive if you're using emollient bath products, though.

DuploTrain · 29/11/2023 10:55

I agree with pp suggestion of rinsing all the bubbles off with the shower after, if you’re not already.

Lefthandwoman · 29/11/2023 10:56

Another vote for Sanex if the excema isn't too bad.

AttentionDeficitAndScrewed · 29/11/2023 10:59

Yes I always shower them off after.

E45 junior bath. Can get it at most pharmacies.

Fair enough, I thought you probably already did 🤣 It sounds like you already know all the right things to do, and I know you're only looking for product recommendations but I gotta eczema-evangelise for anyone who's around… Washing too often without moisturising immediately afterwards, soaking for more than 10–15 minutes, using water that's too hot, or scrubbing too hard, can all dry out your skin. Moisturising bath products are great, but there's no substitute for avoiding/rinsing off irritants, avoiding compromising your skin with heat or scrubbing or long soaking, and moisturising the soaking-wet fuck out of anything that's threatening to go dry. And this is probably all kinds of wrong to say, but IME if you have fewer baths/showers you might sometimes get away with using harsher products…
