Hi All,

I've just given birth via C-Section and was wondering what tips everyone has for recovery/pain relief?

TIA

Id get moving as soon as possible. I walked a lot (mind you it was summer weather a lot nicer). Try and keep the wound dry.

Take it as your own pace, everyone is different.
I wasn't expecting such a tough recovery, it took me about 12 weeks to feel fully back to normal.

Take the good painkillers alongside usual paracetamol etc I got DH to write down times and which ones were due.

Don't do any housework for as long as you can, i set myself back putting a load of washing on.

Congratulations 🎉

My hospital gave me liquid pain relief when I needed it. Definitely have something stronger before you leave.

I slept sat up for a few nights. I couldn't get up from lying and that helped.

No visitors for two weeks. That was the best thing I ever did!

Lots of paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Peppermint tablets for wind and fybogel as a laxative.

No hoovering etc for the whole 6 weeks. I opened my scar a bit by doing house with too soon.

Everyone is different though. I struggled with recovery but my friend bounced back quickly. Just enjoy your baby snuggles and remember it's all heals x

Extra big thick maternity pads, pop an extra one in over your scar stuck to the inside if your knickers.
It will help draw out moisture and prevent infection. Also acts as a bit of a padding so you can press it when you need to pop, cough, sneeze ect.

2 C-sections for me and not a single infection; midwife I saw during recovery said it’s more than likely because I had a maternity pad over it constantly during healing.

Get some cotton pads (not balls) and spend a few minutes really dabbing across your incision line after a bath/shower to dry it. Also don’t put body wash directly onto it, wash your upper half and let the soap just wash over the incision, then rinse really really well.

Move little but often, try getting up and pottering the house, making your own cup of tea ect.

The massive difference between the recovery of my first and second section:
first, I was scared to move.. laid on the sofa for weeks and didn’t move much only to toilet and shower and recovery took ages, the full 12 weeks before I felt normal ish again.

Second section: I got up, wandered around a bit every so often had little walks only into the garden in the first few days. But by day 5 I wasn’t taking anymore pain meds, not even paracetamol. And by the 2 weeks mark I felt like I hadn’t even had a section at all. It was night and day difference.

Peppermint tea. Lots of it.
