Plantur 39 is it worth it

Is this worth getting?

I'm worried too much hair is coming out after I wash it.

Can anyone advise?
It's very very expensive

Has anyone tried this?

I tried this when peri hit and I noticed hair was coming out by the handful. It seemed to improve but my hair didn't feel nice and nourished after IYSWIM

Embarrassed to say I tried Pantene Menopause ones after as they were on offer and hair was better and condition felt nicer.

Although I also changed to a tangle tweezer brush. Decent detangle spray for after washing and only use a Wet Brush when combing conditioner through in shower . So I'm not sure how much of my improved hair loss situation is down to shampoo or a combination of all the above

Of and my hair shedding is always worse this time of year, hairdresser says it's quite normal and cyclical

ohyesohyesoh · 28/11/2023 22:41

I tried it too. It made my hair feel so dry and brittle. I didn't notice any difference in the 'thickness' I wouldn't recommend

Ok this is interesting.
And good to have another option to look at.
I already have a tangle teezer brush.
Do you mean that you only brush your hair when it's got conditioner on? Or have in got that wrong?

I'm just a bit worried. I can't help thinking it might be too much hair comes out after washing.

I've always shed some hair though I guess. Generally.

But I don't know. I don't like looking after you've washed it

Did you do anything else to your hair or just leave it?

ohyesohyesoh · 28/11/2023 22:49

I just left it , I have a blunt cut and that helps my hair look thicker but that's as good as I get.

SwishSwashSwooshSwersh · 28/11/2023 22:52

my iron is generally under 20 so use ferrous sulphate to get levels up. Needs to be above 50 to stop shedding.

the planter shampoo is great on grey, I have very dark hair and the grey is a kind of brown caramel colour

Fraaahnces · 28/11/2023 22:52

I did and it dried my hair an irritated my scalp. I think you’re better off finding the cause of hair loss and getting specific treatment. Takes time but is cheaper in the long run. I discovered that memo came with two kinds of alopecia for me. I take medication prescribed by my dermatologist and it’s helped enormously.

purpleme12 · 28/11/2023 22:52

Thank you.

Interested in anyone else who's tried it/any other suggestions too

Same here. The condition of my hair was awful after using it. My hairdresser's DH tried it and it made his hair dry and brittle as well.

Oh right ok.

So is this a reason to get my iron levels checked then?
Or should I go get some iron over the counter without checking?
I don't know what my iron is

I've tried it and not impressed by it. Hair feels slightly thicker but only for the first day. I've since used Alpecin, the men's equivalent, much better [for me anyway]. Gives body for more days.
It's not cheap but you don't need to use much for it to lather up.

I just assumed it was getting older?!

My mate who is same age as me has said same thing happening to her she thinks!

I use the men’s caffeine shampoo in the black bottle- it’s cheaper.

beachcomber70 · 28/11/2023 22:56

Missing that would be Alpecin I expect.

purpleme12 · 28/11/2023 22:57

Ok so does anyone know what the difference is between the men and women's one?
Why one's for men and one's for women?

Go get your iron tested first. Then find a proper tablet once you know the results

Fraaahnces · 28/11/2023 23:13

The problem with supplementing without evidence that you have a deficit is that it can take a good six months of consistent use to find out if they work - or not. Also if you are chucking lots down your neck you may never know what you actually need.

Fraaahnces · 28/11/2023 23:15

@purpleme12 in theory one would be for male-pattern baldness and the other for female-pattern baldness. The plant extracts are supposed to alleviate the hormonal reasons for the hair loss. I have both kinds so can’t see how that would work.

MoonLife · 29/11/2023 01:44

The shampoo is rubbish and requires a lot of faffling with having to leave it on for the prescribed time ( It says 2 minutes, but internet research says to leave it on longer) and imo doesn't have any noticeable effect on stopping the shedding. What IS quite effective though is the tonic, which is a leave in treatment that you apply to the roots. It's about the same cost of the shampoo but makes a noticeable difference. I like the fact that you can use it in between washing and it doesn't make your hair greasy. I used to apply everyday during the worst years of my shedding and it definitely worked - it's not a miracle solution by any stretch, but less hairs in the plughole is always a good thing

Whatnowfgs · 29/11/2023 02:28

Would ask GP to check Iron, folate and B12 levels as well as thyroid function.

Semi di lino do an energising tonic which is better than plantur.

I'd always been quite rough with my hair and did brush conditioner through in shower but with any old comb. Routine is as follows now -

  • Only ever use tangle teezer on dry hair except for when I'm blow drying fringe out and I'll use a barrel brush (but already have strangler stuff on so it's protected). As I say until probably this time last year I'd used the same old brush for yonks and it probably was too tuggy
  • Pantene S and C to wash and a Wet Brush to comb conditioner through. I'll often shed a bit in the shower still
  • Hair in turban after then give 15 minutes and sparky with this stuff (speedy but lasts ages and smells lush, detangles and heat protects)

luxuriouslook.co.uk/davines-oi-all-in-one-milk-135ml/

And generally just be kinder to my hair - don't rub too vigorously when drying, I use things like PopBands to tie it back as they seem softer.

I definitely still shed but happy it's normal and possibly a bit of an age thing.

I do have an under active thyroid and has that checked out last year together with my Vit D levels. I was low on ferratin which does affect your hair so take a gentile iron tablet every other day.

May be worth getting your bloods done to check nothing underlying?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 29/11/2023 10:11

Sorry should say spendy not speedy

raeray · 29/11/2023 11:51

Taking collagen supplements are what's made the main difference to me.
Thickness and health of my hair and also rate of loss have definitely been helped.
I recommend to a friend and she's noticed a big improvement too.

Apparently you're meant to take 8000mg a day (what another friend recommend me when I was contemplating starting!) so that's what I've done.
It can be quite pricey but there does seem to be offers around at the moment.
