Anyone else finding the continual illness from school and nursery taking its toll on their family? It feels relentless.

The current government seems intent on everyone embracing and accepting sickness as the new norm. Even though we are still in the middle of an airborne pandemic.

I say everyone, they’ve got the air clean in the Houses of Parliament. Our children are expected to take it on the chin though. And when attendance dips the right wing press runs stories on lazy parenting and truancy 🤯

I do find it hard with the constant illnesses.

It makes my job hard when I'm ill, it makes me skip my exercise which then makes me feel rubbish becuase that's my selfcare / weight management time, it makes the sleep bad for everyone in the house, which means everyone is a bit snappy and short with each other..its just hard isn't it.

We've all had about 3 colds since christmas. I feel like I can't catch a break but I also know that its building her immune system up so...I just try and role with it and say fuck the housework if I'm feeling ill. We muddle through.

Same with us it’s very disheartening. Every single week something new.

My family have all been unwell pretty much consistently since Sept 😂

Finished off last term with covid, so Christmas holiday plans went to pot. Managed two full weeks of this term, then played perpetual sickness dominoes until half term. Again, much of half term holidays went to pot. Son now moved on to steroid tablets and 8 steroid inhaler a day. This side of half term we have lasted two days. The only time they all seem healthy is at the back end of school holidays. I read somewhere that teacher sickness absence has increased by over 50% too, so it's not just the kids.

Its grim isn't it. Much of our christmas holidays was spent comforting a very grumpy and ill child on antibiotics and currently half term is spent with a streaming snotty nose all round. I feel like the break from school is just a short reprieve from the onslaught on their immune systems, then as soon as they're better they are back in the trenches again.

I have just tried to completely relax my expectations of what we are going to do during holiday times. Like yesterday, I was off work with her and had planned to have a day out but she just wanted to play in the house so that's what she did, with regular snot wiping, while I got on and did some chores. We had picnic tea on a blanket in the living room. I just try and take all the pressure off.

'I feel like the break from school is just a short reprieve from the onslaught on their immune systems, then as soon as they're better they are back in the trenches again.'

This. So so so much this, along with the onslaught on my immune system. Hope your little one feels better soon.
