Neighbours parking multiple cars

Peachyscream · 28/11/2023 11:28

My house has a garage and I have 1 car. There is also a parking space for 1 car in front of my house on the road. (I’m aware it doesn’t belong to me)

The houses opposite are narrow with no garages. one household in particular owns several cars. Currently (I think) 7 and a tow truck. They park these cars and don’t move them. If one is moved another is waiting on the road to instantly take its place. Their neighbours have taken to putting bins in place and also doing the parking/swap cars thing. It is ridiculous
is there anything I can do?

You have 1 car and a garage for it, why does it bother you? Ultimately public road so anyone can park where they want to.

Daisies12 · 28/11/2023 11:31

unless it’s a private road or permit parking there’s not much you can do. Anyone can park there. They shouldnt use bins to reserve space though. Unless you suspect they are running a business from their house like selling cars, in why case they need to have registered business premises

Peachyscream · 28/11/2023 11:37

Yes, I believe they are selling the cars. I doubt they are registered as a business.

I actually purchased another one but it has to be parked on a family members drive as I can never find a space

I suppose you could contact the council and find out if they're allowed to run a business there or if the council have any advice for you.

SirChenjins · 28/11/2023 12:10

I’d contact the council to find out if they are registered to be running a business and I’d ask if there’s anything they can do about the bins (or I’d move them myself).

Contact your local council planning enforcement team and tell them you think they're running a business.

Also, check online (totalcarcheck.co.uk) whether the vehicles are all taxed appropriately. If they're not, report them to DVLA.

Our local council clamped down on someone that was taking over the road with their vehicles for sale. Unfortunately it seems that it just pushed the problem on to other nearby roads as they just spread them out further.

So you have 2 cars or 3 cars? Park car 2 across your dropped kerb

Peachyscream · 28/11/2023 15:12

@ConsistentlyElectrifiedElves thank you. I will

@PosterBoy I have 2. Second is a replacement for first but there’s an issue so can’t tax/insure yet. If I keep that parked in garage I can. But current car won’t fit in dropped kerb cos they’re parked too close. And no, they won’t move them apart

It annoying when a house has more cars than adults. We've got that. My neighbour collects cars. Which is a lovely hobby but not really appropriate on a row of narrow terraces. The worst thing is he tantrums when I park across my drive so I can get out, even though he does it permanently due to having more cars than adults.
