Shameless posting in chat for traffic. Long story short, I went for a routine eye test/scan a couple of months ago. The scan observed a thin optic nerve and I missed spots in the visual field exam. No pattern to the spots I missed. Was referred by the optician to the glaucoma clinic. Repeated the visual field last week and saw the consultant today who done another scan. He said I was still missing spots on the visual field, and the scan showed a change in the colour of the optic disc. Apparently it should be pink but mine has parts where it is yellow. He didn't seem massively concerned and stated it's not gluacoma but is referring me to a different clinic where they use electrodes to test the optic nerve. He wasn't very forthcoming about potential diagnoses but said it wasn't anything to worry about. When asked what could cause changes to the nerve he kind of shrugged and said something about excess alcohol, head injury, drug use etc. None of which apply to me.
I'm utterly terrified and sick to my stomach about the possibility of vision loss. Unsure how he is confident it's "nothing serious" when there's clearly something going on. It's basically a love long phobia of mine to go blind so I'm really in a tizz. If anyone who has been in a similar situation could share their story that would be greatly appreciated. Or if there's any optometrists that could advise?
