If time and money were no issue, what you spend money on and do to maintain and care for your skin?

I've just turned 40 and believe I have good skin overall. But I am noticing the plumpness is going and so would like to know what I should do, ideally to maintain and care for my skin.

I don't drink or smoke and overall have a good diet but I know I don't use skincare properly. I bought the Geeky (sp?) Vit C a month ago and see no change.

I mis in SPF 50 (La Roche Posay with my duo efficlar every morning). Sometimes I wash my face at night sometimes I forget. I don't use peptides and retinols and serums and such because I don't know what they do.

I slather my face with Nivea (blue tin) a couple of times a week and let it sit then pat dry but then again I only do that because I saw my grandmother do it.

I'm overwhelmed by the routines that some do online and the products they buy

If you had all the resources, what you do to look after your skin? That you have tried and tested and swear by?

I don't have much time but I do have a decent budget. Am late 30s.

The number one thing I would swear by is spending money on a good dermatologist. I see someone on Harley Street and she is worth every penny. I get my tretinoin, vit C serum, skinoren from there and recommendations re shop bought stuff. She also now does a bit of Botox for me in my forehead which I am a fan of.

Apart from following the dermatologist's regime, I don't do much else. I will recommend By Terry's rose sheet mask though - perfect in advance of special occasions or when your skin is feeling a bit dry.

I’d double cleanse at night (first with a balm cleanser like the body shop cleansing balm) then a gentle cleanser like aveeno oat cleanser, wipe off with a warm wet flannel(change flannel daily). Skin& me or dermitica prescription in the evenings - that gives you all the special ingredients you should need (retin a, niacinimide and azaleic acid are in my skin&me prescription, just comes in one tube that you twist to dispense the right amount for one day, a new one arrives every 28 days). Then a very gentle plain moisturiser like cerave dry skin moisturiser afterwards. In the mornings a hyalauronic acid serum then spf50.

I use skin and me, a fairly low retinol prescription, and have done for past six months. I’ve also started using youth bomb serum and moisturiser from beauty pie and I don’t think my skin has ever looked better. I’m late - very late - forties and really happy with my routine.

What does the retinol do and what difference have you personally seen in your skin?
Is it true that once you start retinol you cannot stop? I think this is the one thing I have been hesitant in buying as I am overwhelmed by info online and from users.

Does retinol plump your skin/ or does it get rid of acne and pigmentation? I don't have much pigmentation but would like plumpness to come back :)
