Cutting down meat

I have never been very fond of it but experienced low energy and a fear of low heme iron when I attempted going veggie. I know that this works for many, many people, but it didn't really work for me. My solution is to cut down by however much would suit my energy levels/health.
For reference, I am 50 and haven't had a period for over 16 months, so presumably no longer menstruating!

Is there any sensible literature online which may suggest the lowest amount of meat for health? Would my energy levels and iron stores be ok if I only ate it twice per week, or would I require more?
I understand that it will differ between individuals, but if you are a meat eater what would you consider sensible?

I've really been enjoying the 'veg every day' book by Hugh Fearnely-W. The idea of minimising meat to an afterthought would really suit me as I am obsessed with veg! Sadly I can't do many pulses due to IBS.

Forgot to mention, last year I ate only small servings of fish with tons of veg for months. After a while I became very lethargic and low on energy. I returned to eating land animal meat 4 times per week and recovered quickly. It really irritates me but that's how my body just works Haloween Sad
Medical results were fine though.

You might need to eat a bit more meat than some other people if you aren’t able to tolerate as many of the plant-based foods that are higher in iron.

I eat meat about twice a week and don’t have any issue with my iron levels (I was previously vegan and did have issues then) but I do eat a fair amount of beans, pulses, nuts etc.

If you’re feeling well at 4 times a week then that might be the right amount for you but you could always try cutting down to 3 days a week and seeing how you get on. You can also try having something high in vitamin C alongside the iron you’re eating as that can help absorption and avoid caffeine at meal times.

Thanks, I will try that to start with. If it was up to me I would quit it tomorrow, but such is life.

On average I eat about 80g of chicken twice per week, nitrate free ham once and fish twice. Occasionally eggs.

I hate red meat and have never really eaten it in 30+ years, but when my energy levels tanked I picked up two lamb chops from M&S and recovered within a day. Bloody annoying.
