Poole Pottery? Any knowledgable folk?

I have this passed down from my mum. I believe it’s from the 1960’s.

I love it and will keep it but I need to know if it’s ok to use it for flowers and for chucking stuff etc or whether I should be carefully tucking it away.

Is it valuable?

The only time I saw an item of mine on the Antiques Roadshow it was my Poole Pottery item - and it isn't valuable in monetary terms at all! Use it and enjoy it.

How big is it? For flowers, I'd be inclined to insert a jam jar or similar inside, and put the water and flowers in that.

I think it might be early 70s. The stamp looks like Ros Sommerfelt so probably early 70s. Maybe a delphis vase?

CormorantStrikesBack · 26/11/2023 16:31

Sorry, under the dolphin does it say 63? My eyesight is terrible. In which case it is 60s 😁. Unless it’s number 63 in a run, not sure about Poole numbering. Hang on I have a Poole vase, off to look.

CormorantStrikesBack · 26/11/2023 16:38

Mine says 15 and it’s not 2015 or 1915 so the numbers must be batch runs. Still think it’s a Ros Sommerfelt mark so 70s.

Yours dates from between 1966-1980, according to the factory stamp, OP.

Should add this as a resource.

Thanks all, it’s definitely closer to the 60’s as it’s been in our house since before I was born in 73.
The stamp says 83.

I bought a Poole pottery vase at an antique place recently. I think it cost me £45-50. It is lovely.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 26/11/2023 16:49

The stamp looks like a match for Ros Sommerfelt as a PP says (image attached). She was painting pieces in 1970 & 1971, so it could’ve feasibly been v early 70’s.

don’t know what that means for value but at least you know more about it and hopefully that’ll lead to learning more about the value.

Most of the PP stuff is v mass market. I don’t think the ‘volcanic’ type patterns and colours are particularly valuable (the ones everyone associates
with Poole), unless you find a rare shape or something. It’s the old, pre war/pre mid century stuff that fetches the money. The rarer patterns that you wouldn’t necessarily associate with Poole.

LoserWinner · 26/11/2023 16:58

Poole Delphis, late 60s or early 70s. Not worth a lot, perhaps £20 on a good day, so use it and enjoy it.

CormorantStrikesBack · 26/11/2023 17:02

Some of the volcano stuff goes for about £100 or more but a lot for £40ish. So yes depends on the specifics. I guess as time passes they may go up more.

Not sure how much yours is worth OP but certain pieces can be worth quite a bit and others next to nothing. Saying that there was a soap dish auctioned a bit ago which was estimated to fetch £500 and went for 9k. So you never know!

SabrinaThwaite · 26/11/2023 17:07

It’s a shape no 83 6” Delphis vase.

Paintress mark is most likely Ros Sommerfelt, who worked on Delphis 1970-1971 and 1976.

The Dolphin stamp was used 1966-1980.

It would have retailed at £1.40 in 1973.

Currently worth about £20 / £25 I would guess?

The early Delphis (1960s) is the more collectible ones in the range (Delphis was produced between 1963/4 and 1980), and anything with a Studio stamp can be worth £££.
