Affiliate links on mumsnet

Who's profiting from this ? I've basically given up clicking on any 'what do you think of this ....' 'is this appropriate' 'have you seen....' & have been genuinely (though happily) shocked when a link just directly transfers to a site without re-directing a bunch of times or better yet there's been a photo already on the page

But who's doing this ? Mumsnet/individual posters/some sort of stealth group of affiliate linkers that bounce all over the internet/Facebook ?????

I think it’s just how it works if you post a link

I've seen threads started by Mumsnet along the lines of 'what's your favourite item in the new autumn winter clothes range of this brand' that have definitely been affiliate links and I assume give them money. But I guess ordinary posters could be doing it too.

Aren't there supposed to be warnings of affiliate links on stories/posts for legal reasons? The Mail shopping section is pretty much wallpapered in them.

If you click on an affiliate link and then within a couple of days buy something from that website, like Amazon, even if it's not THAT item, you can get some money for it. I assume it's because Iof that?

I've heard theres laws about disclosing relationships/advertisers which includes links but I don't know if it extends to chat sites ect. as opposed to blogs/vlogs/instagramers

I'd imagine the mail gets around it by disclosing it in the articles (albeit once you've clicked) & on the shopping pages + I know their shopping section grew massively when they discovered them but im always caught out on mumsnet because of the assumption if its posted by a regular its not being advertised by the company but I guess there's always way to get around everything

I posted a link to a cat bed on Amazon the other day and when I previewed, it had the MN affiliate tag added. It’s set up to happen automatically.

it’s mumsnet automatically adding the links. It is just a piece of code they add to all their pages that turns regular links into affiliate links
