Does anyone else have them? How do you get rid of the damn things? They give me the creeps.

They love damp, so maybe a dehumidifier? I used to get them in my utility…turned out I had a leaking pipe under the floor. They left after it was fixed.

Hoardasurass · 26/11/2023 00:54

I had them in a flat years ago it took 4 visits from rentokill with a nasty spray around every room in the flat over a couple of months, though apparently it was a bad infestation.
They eat celluloid so ditch any books etc made of paper that you don't need as they will have laid eggs in them 😬🤢

Put a wet newspaper or towel down on the floor after dark and check every few hours.
I used to squash them.
Started at 60+ a light and took 3 months but there's been no return 5 years later.

Move. That's the only thing that helped us.

They have to have damp conditions, so the best way to deal with them is to dry the area out.

Spraying liquid insecticide simply adds to the dampness and encourages them to a degree.

A proper pest control company would want to do an integrated pest management approach, so drying and then maybe some insecticide. You can get cans of insecticide that you set off, they release gas and kill everything. But you need to be out of the house for about 6 hours so you don't breathe it in.

They're fairly hardy buggers.

Thanks everyone. We’ve tried a dehumidifier in the area most affected but it wasn’t that damp really. Since the weather has turned, we’re getting more of then. They give me the shivers. I had one in bed with me yesterday. 😱

We had millions of the buggers in our old house, if you put the light on the middle of the night downstairs the floor would be crawling 🤢
We had a company come out and set off some sort of gas, got rid of them completely

JennyGracexx · 18/12/2023 21:20

Sorry I can't help but I've found two in our kitchen recently. Hoping they're just a one- off. We also get woodlice, the odd centipede and recently just got rid of a mite infestation 🫣 we have a clean house but it really does make you feel dirty 🤢

mumda · 18/12/2023 21:36

I think they're related to prawns.

Never eaten any though.
