Where is good for women's ski gear?

Hi lovelies my 21 year old daughter is going on a ski trip in January and I would love to buy her a lovely pair of snow trousers (salopettes?) or warm jacket. I'm not a skier so no clue where to look or what to buy. My budget is around £150 mark. Thanks all 🙌🏻

Decathlon are great. And not too expensive if she doesn’t like it.

Melassa · 25/11/2023 11:51

I get a lot of basics from Decathlon like tops, gloves etc. Also bought some great branded ski wear (Roxy, Oniell, Burton etc.) from Vinted. Jackets from Decathlon are not great unless you go for one of their pricier options, on Vinted you can get a branded one for the same price or less.

Ok great thanks. Isn't Vinted second hand tho? Cos it's Xmas pressie I was hoping to buy new. Is £150 unrealistic budget? I've no clue about ski gear and what it costs but assuming it's pricey

We buy in mcarthur Glenn outlet. Helly Henson is one of our favourites and super cheap in one of these stores (super expensive direct from HH!)

DH bought a super lovely designer ski jacket in txmaxx once.

My DD's of similar age love their Superdry Ultimate Rescue snow trousers - currently £139.99 so pricey but good quality. And as mentioned upthread Helly Hanson is also popular and great quality.

Yes, second had, but you’d be astonished how many people buy high end ski gear for their first time skiing, use it for a week, then jack it in. Most stuff is as new. I bought a Roxy jacket that retails at around€300 for €35. Used for one week, in pristine condition. Plus if it turns out she doesn’t like skiing, you can always sell on.

£150 won’t get you much new, unless it’s all Decathlon. You’ll need to buy a jacket, trousers, a snood, tops, gloves, socks at the very least. She can wear leggings under the trousers, no need for thermals, at least at beginner stage. Plus in recent years it not really been that cold. Helmets and goggles can be hired at the resort, alongside boots, although Decathlon do sell cheap goggles which are perfectly fine. I used mine for many years and only treated myself to more professional ones recently.

she’ll also need warm, waterproof footwear. Again decathlon have some ok very basic snow boots. I still use those, they’re totally fine. My ski boots are branded as they do need to fit well and be adapted to your level of expertise, but the apres ski stuff no.

Mountain warehouse is your friend. I bought some for DD last year and it is really good quality and decent prices,

LaChienneDesFromages · 25/11/2023 14:10

You could probably get the lot from Decathalon for that price- and decent quality for a first ski trip. That’s where we buy for our kids every year and it’s fine.

Read this and thought, C&A😂

Snow and Rock or Ellis Brigham if your budget stretches that far. Brands like Roxy, Columbia, Poivre Blanc etc. Superdry do skiwear. Dare2be can also be stylish on a budget.

Sportspursuit you can get really high end stuff pretty cheaply including thermal sets for £25.
It's usually pretty cold in January.
Your looking for high hydrostatic rating - basically waterproof rating, breathability and warmth. Something with vents can be good.

I don't rate some of the fashion brands for ski wear so roxy, billabong etc tends to be rubbish.

TKMaxx is also worth a look this time of year.
