Asda / Blue Light Card

Anyone know if I'd be able to do the following...

I am a blue light card holder. Asda offer 10% cash back when shopping in store. Not online. The cash back is added to your Asda app and can be converted into vouchers to be used as money off future shops. It's decent.

I am buying a Nintendo Switch for my DC for Christmas. Asda have it in their Black Friday sale. However, my local store does not have any in stock. I went yesterday and again today. A staff member checked the system today and said 3 are due in the store on Sunday. I'm not around on Sunday. Even so, 3 will go like hot cakes 😂

I can see tonight however that I could order online and get it delivered to store. However I wouldn't then get my blue light cash back which would work out at £28.

Here's my question... do you think I could order online, collect it next week, do a refund there and then at the collection desk and then put it through and buy it again but this time being able to swipe my blue light membership to get the £28 cash back?

No.
I recently returned something I bought online, they stickered it so they could send it back -even though they had them in stock and on the shop floor!

Blue light card discount is for fresh produce only now isn't it?

MumsyMoves · 24/11/2023 23:29

Oh really? What a pain. I wonder if I said to them before they stickered the hell out of it what I was doing (and why!) It's not like I haven't tried to buy in store and only having 3 due for delivery this weekend seems a bit like poor planning on their part. I'm trying to buy in store but they're making it very hard to do so.

They even had a bespoke Black Friday stand at the entrance today with all the empty Switch boxes labelled "take me to a roll to buy me". I suggested they might want to reconsider this huge stand at the store entrance if they aren't going to have any to sell anytime soon.

Yes very annoying they limited it to fresh produce only, so no more cashback on things like formula, nappies etc., and I guess that would include games consoles

You know what... you may have just solved the quandary!

I bought a carry case today which was in the sale for the intended bigger Switch purchase once I get my hands on o r and I've just checked my Asda app and I didn't get any cash back today. So I think you're right, it doesn't apply to other items anymore it seems. Thank you 😊

Out of interest, this would mean no longer applies to clothes either, do you think?

I always thought the blue light scheme was to help out with the cost of food and drink and not buying gaming consoles. It's probably cheaper on Amazon or somewhere like that.

Oh gosh, I had no idea. Formula and nappies are expensive. I'm through that phase fortunately but would have been very grateful for the offer on those items when they were part of our weekly shop. How annoying! It's a shame they're stripping it back.

I think basic cost wise they're all similar but I was thinking I'd get £28 cash back with Asda but obviously not. And if that's their reasons I understand why. I'll go back to Mr Google and price compare again.

It changed at least 6mths ago- when it went from having to show your card, to having to swipe an app.

I assume you've checked other electrical shops where you CAN get a discount. Marks electrical, currys etc? Argos have gift vouchers where you can save a bit. Might be a pain though to buy a gift voucher to then use that, but might be an option.

As many as I can think of. Curry's don't have a code to match this product, Marks isn't as cheap as Asda have it on offer for even without a discount.

I hadn't realised that Asda had changed the way in which points are earned. Every day's a school day as they say. It's still a great reward though I find - obviously not as great for some as previously mentioned though but for us we generally do only put fresh produce in our trolley (hence I hadn't noticed the change!)

If ASDA is still the cheapest, even without the 10%, could you drive to the next, large ASDA? If its alot cheaper, it might negate the time/petrol etc.

Ygr46gd · 25/11/2023 09:27

Do you have a cashback app like Topcashback or Quidco? It might be you can get the equivalent of 10% off as cashback if you go through there.
