Where to take my mum for the night

My mum has said that instead of a Christmas present she’d rather I organised an experience for us to enjoy together.

TLDR; where to take my mum away for the night??

Longer version;
We live South East and tend to do a lot of West End nights (bargain last minute tickets) so want to do something different and I’m thinking a night away somewhere.

However. I’m struggling to think of where to go. Needs to be a city where we can mooch around the shops, have a wonder, a nice dinner and a couple of drinks. Only going for the night so don’t want a long journey.

To help guide, we’ve been to Bath and Manchester together and she loved both. She has been to Leeds and Nottingham a few times and always enjoyed them. She didn’t enjoy her time in Belfast or Newcastle.

Help!

Winchester, lovely hotels, nice potter and amazing restaurant called the chesil rectory. The oldest building in Winchester, it's lovely.

Did consider it as she loves the Eurostar. We have done the Brussels and Bruges trip and both loved it but would like to take her somewhere new.

Shes going to Paris in May with my dad so don’t want to take the shine off of that.

Looked at Amsterdam but it’s a longer journey. Plus the party city vibe. Don’t want to schlep there to have her dodging vomit puddles.

Does it go anywhere else?

Thanks for the tip. It’s currently in joint top position with Oxford!

Smaller cities... Winchester and Salisbury are lovely

Antwerp. Beautiful, plenty to see, great food and drink, walkable

I am going with my DD to Mamma Mia the party at the O2 and then staying on the Sunborn yacht. Your mum might like it if she enjoys quirky accommodation. The trip was booked through Theatre Express and Groupon so not full prices.

Another vote for York, but you May wavy to ignore me since I really like Newcastle and Belsast!

Oxford or Cambridge.

Bearpawk · 25/11/2023 18:11

Canterbury? Some nice hotels and the cathedral and shops are nice for Xmas

Bearpawk · 25/11/2023 18:13

Or there's always Brighton. Thursday night is student night and Friday and Saturday nights are obviously pretty rowdy if you're out and about on the streets but the lanes are lovely for Xmas too

Brighton or Bath.
