At what age do we start letting kids wipe themselves without checking?

DD is nearly 4 and we’re nowhere near there yet. We’re trying to teach her how to wipe but she doesn’t actually seem to have the coordination to wipe the right place.

Wee’s are fine, she knows to wipe towards the back or she might get sore.
but poo’s we feel like we’re a million miles away, we tried and help her but her arms just don’t seem long enough to reach around enough to wipe her actual bum, she ends up just wiping a cheek 😅

Nursery don’t go to the toilet with the ‘older’ kids and they’re expected to do it themselves, hence why we’re trying to teach her. But watching her at home I just know she can’t quite do it yet, and she’s coming home with poo in her pants where she’s not getting help at nursery. I have mentioned it before and they’ve said they will try and keep an eye on her but they ideally like the kids to go to the toilet by themselves. I obviously don’t want her to get a UTI or infection but I’m not sure what else we can be doing?😩

My DD is 4.5 and is just getting better at this. Same as your DD, she just didn't seem to physically be able to reach properly before. She understood what to do, and she understood she wasn't doing it right, but there wasn't really anything we could do about it.

4 is so young,.it's a shame the school system in the UK is set up in a way that pushes this aspect before kids are ready, at 4 they can barely even reach behind them.
