Can I tell from my alarm system when people came and left?

What I mean is... if I have a cleaner who arrives at 10am, enters the house and knocks off the alarm and them leaves at 1pm clock setting the alarm again, will I be able to tell from the alarm, the times she came in and left? I hope this question makes sense !

Presumably it will depend on the alarm. Ours wouldn't tell you but it's 25 years old.

Cookerhood · 24/11/2023 10:30

Do you have a ring doorbell?

Rosiem2808 · 24/11/2023 10:47

It is a hypothetical question ! Someone I know of (a company) had a cleaner who they accused of short timing and said they had evidence on the alarm system. I do not believe this to be true and thought if anyone knew the answer it would be on MN.

Yes, our old one did and it was 23 years old.

Current one, if someone does break in via the front door we get a fabulous mug shot sent to our phones.. I know this because we had some teething problems and DH and I came out of the theatre to a lovely of mug shot of DS trying to disarm the system, made worse by the fact that he had his hoodie up. If there's an event log, yes. This kind of thing often comes up with cleaners on MN. If the person who is contracting the cleaner isn't happy with the cleaning that's what I would concentrate on - the quality of the job being done. If the time on site is more than 5 minutes or so short and a good job is being done it's less of an issue. Is the cleaner ever early? Not fair to complain about leaving early if the person is also starting early.

Dbank · 24/11/2023 11:15

Yes, most modern alarm systems have a log.

Marnie76 · 24/11/2023 11:15

Yes we use Verisire/Arlo and it shows when the alarm is set and disarmed

keye · 24/11/2023 11:16

Well yes it could be true, becaue there are systems that do this.

YireosDodeAver · 24/11/2023 11:19

Depends on your alarm. We had one that logged departure and arrival times and used it to discover that the cat sitter we were paying for daily visits over Christmas while we stayed the other side of the country with MIL had pocketed the money but not visited at all on Christmas day. Not all alarms do this though. You can also get a movement sensing nannycam which will upload footage to a website you can access to keep an eye on what is going on at home.

It's highly likely to be true, given the levels of technology we have today. We can find people's keystrokes remotely, I very much suspect that there will be a log of when the alarm was armed and disarmed, presuming that the alarm is fairly modern.

I'm curious why you're skeptical about it though.

And surely, if this question is based on an event, it isn't hypothetical

Nuca · 24/11/2023 11:25

Our alarm system at work keeps a log of what time it is deactivated in the morning and then what time it's reactivated again when we close. If our boss thought someone was closing up too early he would be able to see this from the log. So yes it's definitely possible depending on the system

daisybrown37 · 24/11/2023 11:37

Some alarms will have an event log. Never checked mine, but it may well have one.

hedgehoglurker · 24/11/2023 12:04

Also if it is a code, there are usually different codes assigned to different people/ groups of people.

Mine has an app so I get a push notification on holiday when the cleaner disarms the alarm and then again when she sets it on departure (which she is aware of).

YorkieTheRabbit · 24/11/2023 16:37

Yes, we get notifications when the alarm is disconnected/ reconnected and the system is around 12 years old.

DRS1970 · 24/11/2023 16:42

Some alarms store a log of activation and deactivation, and some also record what user carried out that action. So yes, it is perfectly possible dependent on the alarm you have installed.
