Could anyone tell me definitively if I can send UK Marmite jar to New Zealand?

Just this really. Very elderly relative missing proper UK Marmite so I'd like to send one. I have googled but end up in rabbit holes of information and cannot see a yes or no answer.
Thanks.

Your thread reminded me of when I visited my sister in NZ years ago. I had taken a huge jar of marmite for her and dutifully queued up in the 'something to declare' customs lane much to DH's annoyance. The customs bloke actually laughed at me and waved me through. I suspect that I wasn't the only Brit who had done this.

Sorry not much help OP but hopefully someone else will be.

Although NZ marmite is different, they always used to sell 'our mate', which was packaged like UK marmite and, as far as I could tell, tasted the same. Was widely available in supermarkets 15 years ago.

Yes you can

She has tried many many similar types of stuff and nothing is suitable apparently. She is 98 and wants the real thing 😁

Yes you can! (I have the opposite problem and buy NZ Marmite at exorbitant prices over here from SANZA. . .)

@Christmassy

its nothing like the same thing AT ALL. It's a different taste and a completely different texture

i used to get my friend to send it over. Never had a problem & fine through customs. One time my suitcase was 98% marmite!! The rest was just clothing as protection 😂😂

Yes.
I used to the send the squeezey jars or the plastic tubs you can get from Amazon.

Ozgirl75 · 24/11/2023 19:17

Do they not have any British shops in NZ? When we first moved to Aus we used to get the occasional thing from places like British Sweets and Treats, but now they sell all the main British brands in the main supermarket anyway. Surprised NZ don’t do the same.

Our Mate is Marmite. The name is because of existing outlets/products called Marmite. Much the same as Burger King having to be called Hungry Jack's in Australia.

I have UK visitors coming over at Christmas, and yes, I've asked for big jars of Marmite. I can buy the pissy little jars of Our Mate at Coles, but prefer. to monster, i.e. normal size.

Our Mate Marmite 125g

Yes, it is 'the real Marmite'. Made by Unilever in the UK and exported to Australia and NZ under the brand name 'Our Mate'. Remember the slogan "our mate Marmite'? Marmite was first produced in 1902.

We do have British shops in NZ but there are not many. I am always surprised at the odd things they stock and usually really expensive.

Shangrilalala · 25/11/2023 04:24

Sympathies for her. I used to get NZ Vegemite brought over to me here on a regular basis. Formulation was so amazingly diffierent.
Then I developed a bizarre aversion to it in pregnancy and still can’t even cope with its smell.

Shangrilalala · 25/11/2023 04:41

Really wish I hadn’t read this thread! It’s the middle of the night and I’m now seriously contemplating going downstairs to make myself a crumpet (or two) with marmite on!

Christmassy · 25/11/2023 09:18

@echt Lol yes, I know this. My friend says it still does not taste the same. Mind you, she is 98 and having not left NZ for 20 odd years I'm not actually sure the last time she had 'real marmite' 😬

It costs £15-20 p&p for a large jar with tracking.
I wasn't just going to 'chance it' without checking first.

£20 for a 98 year old, I would

Glipsy · 25/11/2023 17:23

Depending where she lives they do stock it in some supermarkets there - you can post from here but check if you can find it online in NZ as might be cheaper than shipping from here

Christmassy · 26/11/2023 09:30

Thanks everyone. All sorted now. 🙏🙂
