Why so similar?

Nah, those three are mere amateurs of the political hairstyle carefully cultivated for brand recognition and/or distraction from their loathsome views.

For proper jaw-dropping, I present Estonian right-wing nationalist Rain Elder...

I don't usually hold with mocking anyone for their hair, btw, but when each of the aforementioned, who certainly have the means to access top-level stylists, choose to retain their signature manes...you can only conclude they revel in the attention!

ALittleTeawithmilk · 24/11/2023 04:48

I agree @ChristmasChopin they like their hair like that.

cut and coloured to look as it does.

Puzzling, really: Boris's whole schtick was his fakely dishevelled mop, crumpled clothes. I guess hoping for the electorate to infer he was simply too focused on Important Political Matters to consider such frippery as combing his hair and whipping out an iron.

Whereas re-constructing Trump's barnet of a morning must take a massive investment of time, regular dye, combover-ing, industrial quantities of hairspray. Interesting. You'd assume he'd scoff at anyone else doing the same.

Desperate to hang on to his last vestiges of youth, push the virile macho shit. And reassure his fanbase that oh-I'm-such-a-maverick-me over his hair demonstrates he'll remain true to his/their political beliefs despite similar public derision.

Freud would have a field day.

Australia's last PM (not the current one)was balding but had the ‘daggy dad’ look going - an ‘Everyman’ type of thing. He, very noticeably, tried to use that in the last election, peddling the theme that he wasn’t ‘fake’ in contrast to the new PM that we did eventually elect, who had had a bit of a style makeover. He is also balding, but had lost a bit of weight and invested in better fitting suits and more stylish glasses. The ‘fighting- fit-ready-for Office’ look. A sort of middle/ aged trendy inner-city look.

I can see how Boris was presenting himself as you said @ChristmasChopin . I think you are spot on.

I think the way Trump presents himself is complex and contradictory. At least, it confuses me why people vote for him. The construction of hair on his head which screams vanity but also unapologetic denial of reality. That basic unapologetic denial of reality that I think many people are responding to - especially post pandemic. He’s constantly talking bullshit, constantly contradicting himself - but it is bullshit many people want to believe regardless.

I’ve seen Australian MPs walking about Parliament House in Akubra hats - no sun to be seen. We have seen US senators who wear cowboy boots - no horses to be seen.

Certainly some cos play going on.
It’s actually quite interesting what messages the leaders, or would be leaders, want to send about themselves.

Oh man he got my mum to cut his hair in 1979 and kept the style going.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 24/11/2023 07:44

Epler's hair reminds me of 1970s Playmobil...

VelvetVoice · 24/11/2023 08:09

I’m not criticising their hair style at all! Just noticing that it is somewhat in the same league.

@VelvetVoice , it is very odd, isn't it?

I don't know enough about the dreadful Wilders to make a call on his yet.

Westfacing · 25/11/2023 13:59

Wilders is known to dye his hair platinum blonde - has dark roots apparently!

Intriguing to read on Wiki that he is of Indonesian descent on his mother's side - something going on there!

Scruffington · 25/11/2023 14:01

Yes, Wilders dyes his hair to give an image of his being more 'Aryan' than he actually is.

Indo ancestry is very common in the Netherlands though, due to the colonial history. Obviously it’s nowhere near as common as, say, having an Irish grandparent/great-grandparent when you’re British, but culturally it’s along the same lines: it’s really not something that people find unusual.

I’m not defending the man and I certainly didn’t vote for him, I’m just saying. I think in his case it’s more of a look/personal style he’s gone for. Not that I would know.

The joke in NL used to be that he must be a vampire, because if he could see himself in a mirror there’s no way he would have that hairstyle 😜

GasDrivenNun · 25/11/2023 14:54

I would call that 'Lego' hair
