How much do you spend on your children at Christmas?

Just wondering what is normal these days. I would say we spend about £60 per child. We have 3 children.

Mine are 2 and 4

Spent £150 on each. One big toy, couple of little things that match the big toy and then stocking fillers.

Probably spent a little less than that actually but that my limit.

I bought them 1 outfit of clothing each too

DiaryOfaTTCer · 24/11/2023 18:32

£250ish

One three year old

Mostly educational things e.g interactive globe, books, puzzles. Or open ended toys like magnetic tiles that can be used for a long time and passed down hopefully to a future sibling!

Try to avoid character toys that he will grow out of after a phase - other family members end up getting him things like that

His birthday isn't until Aug so he won't get anything else between Christmas and then

I'm reading it with my mouth hanging open, I had no idea so many of us spent so much.

Me too @StardustGiraffe , who has 600 to spend per child!?

What with social media nowadays it’s akin to child abuse if you don’t buy (Santa brings) the latest must have ,my 11 yDD has her heart set on a the latest Moncler Fulmarus but I cannot find one under £1600 so it’s a no I’ve seen Moncler flammette for £1100 in selfridges plus I have a 10% off card ☺️ so it will come in under budget. My DS7 is into his computers and wants PlayStation points again but I know his “ friend “ at school is getting an electronic bike that his mum was dying to tell me cost £1400 . My DH doesn’t want a bike has anyone got any suggestions as to something I can buy that will definitely top this other child’s I’d like to get it before the Christmas holidays so I can let it slip to his mother. I’ve decided budget goes out the window this year so please ladies come up with something brilliant for my boy he really deserves a good Christmas.

Is he into music/instruments at all? Maybe something like a fancy drum kit with drum lessons or a ukulele with ukulele lessons?

Does he like football? A stadium tour, flashy football boots, latest team kit if he doesn't already have it.

Other random suggestions.

WANNABETRAVELER . No I’m not 🫣🤦 I must come across as a bit crazy

You're teaching a terrible lesson to your children - that you need to have material goods to have value/worth.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 24/11/2023 18:59

Around £200.
I saved up all year for it.

Though seeing the liberal sprinkling of Moncler through your update, I'm pretty sure you're kidding. And who "casually" drops into conversation that they spent £1400 on a child's present?

Temporaryname158 · 24/11/2023 19:27

£60 per child. They are happy with that. Id love to spend more but cant afford to.

children are 9 and 7. I do worry they will go back to school and hear about what their friends got spent on them 🙁

CMVB · 24/11/2023 20:29

We don’t really set a budget but try not to go too overboard. We’ve got 4 children (5, 3, almost 2 and 9 months) the 3 older children have had around £300 each and baby has had £150 as she doesn’t need much. Haven’t started shopping for stocking fillers yet but they normally come to around £100 each (Santa sacks rather than stockings). We do a December 1st box too

Thehighestmaintenance · 24/11/2023 21:08

WANNABETRAVELER who casually drops into conversation that they spent £1400 on a present??? My point exactly!! The woman is the devil’s own . This is why I must punish her with my child’s gifts , it will do her good for her to understand life’s not fair and sometimes people and their children are just superior… deal with it .

Why not donate to local charities instead... I'm sure your local animal sanctuary, or another local charity would love 1.4k worth of donations.

Where did I say I was offended?
Nothing offensive about your post, just incredibly childish.

phhhhaaa, yes ok. 👍

AuntieMarys · 25/11/2023 07:15

Dh spends £30 each on 2 grandchildren...they are 6 and 4. He could spend 10 times that but chooses not to. They have everything!

Chouxpastryishard · 25/11/2023 07:25

Too much. I really want to rein it in this year. I am interested in what people spend on adult children if they are retired.

My DM gets us all a small gift - about £15 ish.

My dad doesn't give us anything now he's retired. The grandchildren get £10ish. He does host us all on boxing day though.

Thehighestmaintenance · 25/11/2023 08:27

Boring 🥱

Piscesmumma1978 · 25/11/2023 08:32

4 DC. 300-400 each and that doesn't look like much. I put money back all year.

I wait for black Friday and watch the prices for weeks before to make sure they're actual deals.

I'm assuming your posts are a piss-take, but I'll say it anyway.

You might have more money that Midas, but the fact that you dress your kids in Moncler, and brag about spending thousands with your friends/enemies - that's pure council estate.
