Middle of the night ear ache

Up with a child with an ear ache. I’ve given pain relief and something warm to let her ear on but she just can’t settle. Does anyone know anything else that helps relive ear pain. Just hoping to get her to settle to sleep.

When I had serious ear ache I was in horrendous pain and I'm an adult so I feel for your little one. I went to McDonald's drive thru at 2am and asked for a cup of ice and held it against my ear. Something about the cool air passing near my ear really helped but I don't know how a child would cope with the cool near the head. Hope they find some relief and you both get some sleep! X

Thanks. @Colalola - we’ve got TV on now as she couldn’t settle. Gonna try sleep again in a bit.

@Dowhadiddydiddydum I swear by a sock filled with salt, heat it in the microwave for 40-50 seconds and then (make sure it’s not too hot but nice and warm) put it on your child’s ear. My DD suffered terribly with earache when she was little and this was the only thing that worked. It draws out the inflammation - honestly, give it a whirl and see how your Dc feels with it.

Earache is unbelievably painful

Call the GP as antibiotics might be required

Double up on the pain relief, both paracetamol and ibuprofen.

I can empathise OP, my DS1 was like this, would go to bed fine, wake in the night with ear pain. We always seemed to have a course of antibiotics in the fridge, by the time he got the about 7, it was ok. Not much you can do, otherthan calpol and cuddles, then ring GP when they open. Awful seeing your child in pain.
