Don't claim any benefits, don't pay national insurance anymore, no pension, no business.

Was hoping for tax thresholds to change but it appears not.

I suppose you’re lucky you aren’t paying NI!

Houseplanter · 22/11/2023 15:32

Yes 38 years was enough thanks

Whàt were you expecting. I wish they would raise tax free allowance for the lower paid. That would be fair I think. I also hoped they might raise the inheritance tax allowance. But that wouldn't be fair.

babbygabby · 22/11/2023 15:35

I wish I could stop after 38 yrs! I will likely be paying it for 50 😫

CruCru · 22/11/2023 15:37

You don’t pay NI and you don’t receive any pension? How does that work?

ginasevern · 22/11/2023 16:24

OP, I don't understand your circumstances. You paid NI for 38 years and yet you have no pension?

Houseplanter · 22/11/2023 16:35

I'm not only enough for an old age pension. I have a very small occupational one

OP posts:
Houseplanter · 22/11/2023 16:43

Sorry that should be old enough

Did you think they were going to lower the state pension age?!

Houseplanter · 22/11/2023 16:47

Ha. If only.

Very little for us either, NI will make little difference in the grand scheme of things. I was hoping they'd push up the higher rate tax threshold as I am just above it and it would make a real difference, especially for CB etc

Fifthtimelucky · 22/11/2023 18:15

I'm in exactly the same position, OP.

Yes, a change to the tax thresholds would have been nice but I can see the logic in focusing on those who are working, especially as the Government has said it's keen to encourage people back into work.

I made a choice to retire early, knowing that I would not get my state pension for several years. If I needed more money I could always look for a job to supplement my occupational pension.

I'm glad that my children will benefit from the changes announced today.

You expected something? Do you believe in the tooth fairy or Father Christmas still?

FitAt50 · 22/11/2023 20:41

I dont understand - if you are working why are you not paying NI?
