Aside from moving it / moving to a new one. Stuff that improves what you have.

Id:-
Knock through the lounge to a small room off it to make a lounge/diner.
Add a small shower room in the attic
Snazzy up the utility room
New kitchen (with wine fridge)

It's all generally in our plan (we can't decide if we would rather move instead) but it's all such a faff and an expense and it's really boring planning it all - so if I could just click my fingers and it be done, I'm in!

We are mid renovation (old thatched cottage) so doing it all (but very very slowly as no funds). We have already replaced windows and external doors, put in a garden office, new kitchen and a new heating system goes in, in January. But there’s masses to do yet.

Dining room- expose the beams, redo the wiring and finish the fireplace. Replace the flooring.

Bathroom - complete refit

Replace all the internal doors. Replace all the rotten skirting (99.99% of it).

Redecorate throughout.

Sitting room fireplace - open it back up.

Repoint the bastard chimneys and find out what’s making them smoke.

Carpet upstairs and attempt to level my bedroom floor so things stop rolling away. I love the quirks but it is taking the piss at the moment.

Revamp all the built in cupboards with nicer wood and doors that actually shut.

Outside get someone to sort out the orchard as it’s run away with us and also re-do the very dangerous steps to the top garden.

Put the french drains in where the surveyor said they are needed.

We need about £50k - currently have about 5p.

Knock down the conservatory and office at the back of the house and replace with a full width extension to be a kitchen-diner plus small boot room. Convert current kitchen into utility & walk-in larder. Convert loft into a master suite, with bathroom & dressing area.

I'd also love a built-in bespoke book shelf to sweep round the corner and along the wall at the end of our lounge. We got a quote for it and it was nearly a quarter of what the attic conversion would cost!

replace all the windows with new energy efficient ones.

get rid of block paving and replace with a bonded resin driveway

loft conversion for master bedroom and bathroom

brand new kitchen (Sunak and co you are kitchen stealing bastards).

install rack shelving in the garage so I can store things beautifullt

Parquet flooring all round

Those understairs cupboards that pull out for shoe storage

designer garden with amazing plants and features. Fire pit. Pizza oven.

I am dreaming!

We only have one loo but no room for another so couldn’t do that. Over the last few years we’ve done our kitchen, bathroom, windows, front door and put a solid roof on the conservatory as well as decorating our living room and kids rooms. Would maybe decorate our room and replace all our internal doors which look a bit crap. Maybe get the conservatory properly rebuilt into a proper room

StarShipControl · 21/11/2023 23:59

Re floor everywhere
Redo the bathroom (thank you Crap Builder)
Put the biggest home office/garden room I can get away with so we can have a home office and chill out room.
Extend my kitchen even further

Neverendingstory2 · 22/11/2023 00:09

ooooh so much I would do, I would…

Replace all the carpet with hardwood

replace the garage doors

replace the deck

replace the roof

finish the garage floor

do some landscaping

replace kitchen appliances

replace the vanity in the kids bathroom

get new furniture

GasDrivenNun · 22/11/2023 00:39

It would be a long list because so much needs doing.

SomethingBlues · 22/11/2023 00:41

Two storey extension to the side
new garage
landscaped garden
loft conversion

so… not much 😂

Thelnebriati · 22/11/2023 01:02

Carpets and underlay, triple glazing, and solar panels. And a cat proof fence.

Legendairy · 22/11/2023 01:31

Make the loft into a dressing room for me, it isn't quite tall enough to be considered a proper room but high enough for me. Wasn't worth paying for when we wanted another room but if I'd love to have that extra space.

Would also redo front and back gardens. Brickwork is just so expensive now. Would put in a porch also.

Summer 2022 we had spoken to a couple of builders and started lining up an architect to do an extension to take our kitchen across the back of our house and bring down the wall with the dining room, making a big open plan kitchen diner. Then you know, gas & electric prices, interest rates, cost of living crisis, suddenly adding £500 a month onto our mortgage was going to be more like £800 a month to borrow the same amount, oh and our bills had just gone up about £300 a month… anyway we parked that idea, so id get those rough sketches out and we’d call the architect and builders back and get that done.

(I blame Sunak personally for my lack of pretty kitchen and will be thinking about “kitchen stealing bastards” when I vote next)

This! Every single word. Kitchen stealing politicians to be voted out next election.

Notyetthere · 22/11/2023 01:46

Extension to the back the back of the house for a kitchen living diner. Turn current kitchen into a utility, ensuite, and downstairs toilet.

Render the whole house

Repave our potholed drive with resin and have this extend to the side path.

Patio at the back with raised planters full of lavender plants.

New front door with more glass to throw more light into the hallway.

Underfloor heating downstairs.

Remove chimney breast from our bedroom so that I can put more storage for my husband's beloved trainer collection.

Whatincreaseplse · 22/11/2023 04:15
